Sam Beam , or Iron and Win e as he is more commonly known, is one of the best songwriters of this generation. For the last ten years or so, Iron and Wine has consistently provided simply beautiful music with not much more than an acoustic guitar and his graceful voice. Songs like " The Trapeze Swinger ", "Boy With a Coin" and his cover of the Postal Service's "Such Great Heights" are among some of the best songs of the last decade. When [...]

Sam Beam, better known as Iron & Wine , is in the midst of promoting his latest and fifth studio album Ghost on Ghost released earlier this year via 4AD / Nonesuch . Recently, he filmed an episode of At: Guitar Center with Nic Harcourt to perform some tracks and speak about his new offering. One of the song peformed was opening track "Caught in the Briars." You can never go wrong with the simple elegance of Beam's compositions. [...]
Summertime, and the living is easy. The fish are jumping, and the cotton... well, you get the idea. Summer officially arrives this week, bringing with it afternoons in the park and rooftop parties and beaches. The thing is, though, every summer needs a soundtrack, and while every year there seems to be a rush to anoint a certain tune The Song of the Summer™, Flavorwire decided to go one better and choose a quintessential summer album for every one of the past 50 years, as something of a sequel to last month's list of the 50 albums you need [...]

"Dad Rock" started as a snarky label that music snobs & critics lobbed at aging classic rock-influenced bands like Wilco and The National . Maybe because it's Fathers' Day weekend or because I will be a new dad next month (if due dates hold true), but I'm joining Jeff Tweedy in embracing the once-derogatory term. So here's a mix of some modern dad rock, all from the last three years and all of which I happen to love. Download the entire mix here . [...]
Iron & Wine - Caught In The Briars/Sundown (Back In The Briars) on Conan
קודם כל, כי "When a fire starts to burn" הוא סינגל מעולה ובעיקר ממכר להפליא.

Opener Caught in the briars transformeert [...]
Iron & Wine performed a stylish, impressive set of mainly new songs to an adoring crowd in The Olympia last night. Support was provided by the wonderful vocals of John Smith. It was great to get a chance to see John Smith live last night. He began his set with a song that he sung without the mic with his wonderful vocals filling the impressive Olympia room. This took some courage and silenced the full room. With this start I thought I was going to [...]
Covers are an interesting thing. A lot of times, they leave me feeling stupid and worthless as I tell myself I've discovered this great new band who instantly put out a classic, only to find it's a cover. But the silver lining to that feeling is that usually it means the cover was done right. The artist covering the material needs to bring an element of uniqueness to the original song in order to make it a bit of their own, but not a complete ripoff of the maker's creation. And when done right, it's a magical moment. Here [...]

Last year, the primordial pop culture soup belched up an abomination in the form of Lulu , a collaborative effort between Lou Reed and Metallica . It made no sense. There was no reason for it to exist, unless maybe it was made on a dare. So in the interest of making the universe feel like a place of order and sanity, here's a list of inevitable musical collaborations. These are songs, albums, and side projects that are not just good, but also make the world feel like a rational place to live. [...]

Shervin Lainez If it were as recently as last year, I would be spending this post - hell, yesterday's post - talking about how after arriving in Chicago last Saturday, I went almost straight to Beat Kitchen to see Laura Stevenson and Field Mouse play, on account of missing the Toronto show of their tour this past Tuesday because of this little vacation. But because I've grown as a person and am no longer spending all my time and energy trying to make it to shows and write about them, I have nothing to [...]

[photo by PSquared Photography - courtesy of brooklynvegan ] Exactly four years ago, Sam Beam took Iron and Wine into a series of intimate venues for a solo tour of very memorable nights. We were fortunate to capture one of the two nights at the tiny Abrons Arts Center on the Lower East Side and it was one of the best shows we saw that year . On Sunday night, we caught the Portchester stop on the current tour and the stage setting couldn't have been any more [...]
