Tweet It's hard to believe it's been four years since Portland folk group Blind Pilot released its 2008 debut "3 Rounds and a Sound" which, while incredibly enjoyable, had a tendency to sound incredibly similar from song to song and come across as too long. But instead of rushing to complete a mediocre follow up, the group come back leaner and more well-versed in the pop sensibilities that would have elevated Blind Pilot's debut from good album to great album. It's turning into a good week for album streams. First came the new Blitzen Trapper record and now NPR has their hands on fellow Portland, Ore alt-country band Blind Pilot's new one as well . We Are the Tide blooms agreeably from start to finish. Though Blind Pilot locates extra energy on the live stage — the band's sound has tightened over time, as it's expanded from the duo of Israel Nebeker and Ryan Dobrowski to a large and fleshed-out sextet — the new record focuses more on lush, pretty concoctions like [...]
It's been a long time since we've heard anything from Blind Pilot . Their debut album, 3 Rounds and a Sound, came out in 2008 and since then, they've morphed into a very, very different band from the one that recorded that album. What started as a two-piece folk outfit from frontman Israel Nebeker and drummer Ryan Dobrowski, has turned into a large band which includes secret weapon Kati Claborn. "There were rumors of record label drama, writer's block, recording sessions in an Astoria tree house, flat bicycle tires (totally made this one up), [...]

Outside the Uptown Theatre, it looked like the Pacific Northwest as a blanket of cold, misty rain enshrouded the town. Inside the Uptown Theatre, it was about to sound like the Pacific Northwest as Portland's finest was preparing to take the stage. The weather, a possible nuisance to those at the outdoor NIN / Jane's Addiction concert across town, was just the finishing touch for the setting of the Decemberists ' tour. Blind Pilot , a harmonious indie folk group along the lines of the Fleet Foxes and Avett Brothers [...]

Selling out The Mercury Lounge in New York City on your first national tour? Not too shabby for a couple of eco-friendly boys from Oregon who just a little while ago were touring the West Coast on their bicycles, busking for anyone and everyone who would listen. Blind Pilot brought a little Portland-inspired acoustic indie to New York in support of their latest release, 3 Rounds And A Sound , and the locals welcomed them wholeheartedly. Who would've thought New Yorkers could be so [...]

I was passed 3 Rounds and a Sound by Portland rockers Blind Pilot and had heard it was very " Arcade Fire meets Jack Johnson ." Umm, whoever told me that is deaf because I wholeheartedly disagree! Decidedly piqued, I figured I would give this indie pop duo a fair shot anyway. And after a couple of listens, it's safe to say I'm glad I did. If you're looking for the musical equivalent to what The Shins would sound like if they jumped out of bed and immediately began playing music without [...]
