The last time we wrote about The Middle East back at the beginning of 2010 we envisaged great things for them. Just as we were getting excited by the prospect of the release of the Australian's full-length debut 'I Want That You Are Always Happy' we found out they had decided to call it quits. [...]
It's an odd thing, to be writing about how good a band's music is and how they were gaining lots of fans, just as news spreads that they have decided to call it quits. While they formed in 2005, perhaps it should've been clear that longevity wasn't quite in the cards for this wonderful outfit [...]
Recently The Middle East announced they are calling it quits but not before the completed this video from their debut, I Want That You Are Always Happy Watch as this will probably be the last TME media to come forth, we will miss this band's music!
The Middle East may have split up, but they have just released two videos for the beautiful 'Jesus Came To My Birthday Party'. The videos are the winners of a competition the band was running in conjunction with Genero TV. The above one is my personal favourite while the one [Read more]
The Black Death was possibly the most devastating pandemic in human history. A bubonic plague caused by bacteria was carried on oriental rat fleas, the disease spread from China to Europe by rodents stowed away on merchant ships docking at Mediterranean ports in the 14th century. Symptoms included breathing difficulties, armpit boils and groin infections – the outcome, certain death. The sick were isolated, left to die in misery and despair. In 1349, the Black Death reached Mecca, the religious capital of The Middle East and it is here that the Australian namesake band open with their debut album. Two [...]
The Middle East are no more. No, not the region, the Townsville indie folkers who just released the amazing album 'I Want That You Are Always Happy'. It all happened mid set at Splendour In The Grass yesterday...sad, sad, sad. Whilst the song 'Months' isn't very reverb-centric at all, it'll have to be a swansong. Download 'I Want That You Are Always Happy' from Spunk / EMI via the The Middle East (official site) or iTunes here .

Australia sure is churning out quality indie rock these days. They've kind of become the Sweden of indie rock one might say. Our newest installment of bands from Down Under is The Middle East. The band has one EP to their name already titled Recordings Of The Middle East but 2011 will find them releasing their first full length. I Want That You Are Always Happy was released earlier this month in Australia and will hit the States on July 12th. The down side right now is that the hard copy is considered an import so [...]
Here we have a really interesting mix of sounds. Kinda folky, a little country, somewhat poppy, all awesome. Aussies The Middle East project a tantalizing uniqueness on their most recent album I Want That You Are Always Happy. The disc is out July 12th stateside, so you gots a whole month to find their other awesome songs and convince yourself to buy it. Here's their Myspace for your perusal. I'm

I wrote about Queensland, Australia's The Middle East on CO way back in 2008 (although Wikipedia claims I Guess I'm Floating introduced the band in May 2009) when I stumbled on the impressive track "Blood." There was little in the way of information on the band then, but it seemed they had called it quits. Perhaps the attention their music garnered spurred them to reunite. A re-release of their EP The Recordings Of Middle Eas t followed to rave reviews, and now the collective is armed with their first full-length, entitled I Want That You Are [...]

Sometimes the most beautiful of things can come from the most unexpected of places. As suggested by a few of its song titles (well, any album that opens with a song called ‘Black Death 1349’ shouldn’t be expected to be the most cheerful of listens), the long-awaited debut from Australia’s The Middle East is a rather downbeat affair. This doesn’t stop ‘I Want That You Are Always Happy’ from being an impressive piece of work; in fact, it’s perhaps the most rewarding album of the year thus far. There are relatively few upbeat moments. Aside from the [...]
On July 12th, the seven-member Australian musical collective known as The Middle East will release their debut album, I Want That You Are Always Happy, in the US via Missing Piece Records. The album is the long-anticipated follow-up to their debut EP, Recordings of the Middle East, which earned accolades and fans ...

The Middle East at MHOW (05/17/10) Photo : Jon Klemm Since releasing the brilliant Recordings of The Middle East EP, Australia's The Middle East have managed to keep a pretty low profile. So low in fact, that I wondered if they might have broken up; it turns out that that didn't happen and they were in fact, just busy recording a new album. The full length debut LP by The Middle East is called I Want That [...]
There's no doubting it; love (or lack there of) is very much the main inspiration behind a vast majority of music. Whether it be wallowing in the caliginous depths of despair, or reveling in the elation of scarcely found requited adoration. Thus, the album title of Australian group The Middle East's second full length record, gives more than a clue as to it's content. I Want That You Are Always Happy has been over three years and numerous line up changes and a bizarre reformation in the making; the record was released to critical acclaim earlier this month. [...]
Consider, for a moment, how lucky we are that The Middle East are still around. They split and stayed inactive for eight months after releasing a mini-album, ‘The Recordings of the Middle East’ in 2008. An abridged version of this (i.e. an EP) surfaced in 2009, and thankfully the Australian collective (who do not have very much, if anything, in common with this Canadian one ) decided to keep up the whole band thing. Two years later, there is an album out in their home country: ‘I Want That You Are Always Happy’. It gets a UK release on June [...]

Yesterday, the highly anticipated debut album from this musical collective out of Townsville, Australia was released down under. Following up on their EP 'The Recordings Of The Middle East', and the digital release only 'Jesus Came To My Birthday Party', The Middle East are known for their excellent take on everything from chamber pop to psych folk. The album was recorded between tours at three studios: Mark Myers' Townsville studios in early 2010, Midlake's Denton Studios in Texas in March and Cairns' Funhouse Studios at the end of the year. [...]

Stream another tune from The Middle East's new record which comes out in a week, we love this band and so far the album showing some strong material. They may just be from the land of the bloody unknown having come out of obscurity last year with their debut EP, but they are on the map now and we will see them get even more "known" with their debut LP - "I Want That You Are Always Happy" out April 8 in Australia. The Middle East - Land of the Bloody Unknown Pre [...]
