Jack White 's Third Man Records has produced some fine recordings through its Blue Series releases, but the latest one, featuring soulful songstresses Brittany Howard (Alabama Shakes) and Ruby Amanfu (Jack White's "Love Interuption"), might be the best one yet. The A-Side is a rowdy, upbeat cover of Rodríguez's "I Wonder" while the B-Side is a stripped down version of Memphis Minnie's, "When My Man Comes Home," which you can stream above. The Blue Series I Wonder 73 comes out March 12th via Third Man Records .

How about a beautiful bit of blues for your Monday afternoon? The folks at Jack White's Third Man Records have brought together Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes and Ruby Amanfu (a Third Man artist who notably featured on White's "Love Interruption" ) for a sumptuous duet. This will be out on a two song EP with a song called "I Wonder" on March 12. It feels downright anachronistic in Soundcloud, but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying it. Listen to it here .

Well, it took a bit longer than expected (losing your job in November and having a baby in January will disrupt the blog-writing process a bit), but Given and Taken in Ink's list for best albums of 2012 is finally here. This year, a handful of bands came out of nowhere and blew me away. I knew right away that debut albums from Drew Smith and The Rest would stand among the best releases of the year. They are joined by 28 other great albums, by artists well-known and obscure. I'm pleased that GTI's 2012 list is a [...]

Metz , Howler , Alt-j ?

Thanks To Camilo for this great artwork. Looking back at 2012, there were plenty of albums that I loved. Was it the best year of music in recent memory? Maybe not, but it was a damn good year in its own right. There is a lot that we may look back on and remember well into the rest of the decade. This year I listed my Top 40 albums, as well as a few honorable mentions that were as close to making my list as they come. I didn't get to listen [...]

All week long we’ve been counting down our staff’s picks for the best albums of 2012. Today, on one of the last workdays of the year, we reveal the top of our list. When Hidden Track was started in 2006 there were plenty of sites dedicated to indie rock and a slew of sites devoted to improvisational and classic rock bands, but few blogs (and bands for that matter) bridged the gap between the forms. That’s where we came in and five years later the results of our [...]

So, we've broken down our lists into our favorite "national releases of 20123 and our "Nashville releases of 20123 as a No Country team. We decided to throw our best shows of 2012 into individual lists since we usually try to cover as many different events as possible. To let you have the full opportunity to absorb our gems, we are [...]

Top 25 tracks of 2012 Well, it's December, it's a week until Christmas, it's midweek and I'm drinking. That can mean only one thing, I've read Trotter's Top 10 for this year and felt compelled to pen a response. Yes, it's time to pore over the musical detritus of 2012 and pick out the wheat from the chaff... Or, to let my inner geek put things into lists... Here, we look at the top 25 tracks from 2012 that do not feature on any of my top 10 albums of [...]
