A word often associated with the Millennial Generation is “lost.” We’re told it won’t be found until we start to see the light peaking somewhere out of the recession, the student loan debt crisis is resolved, same-sex marriage is embraced throughout all 50 states, and the unemployment rate plummets. Like every older generation before it, this generation is often lauded as apathetic and entitled. Along with Hemingway and Stein, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s perceived his own generation as “lost” in the sense that the “restlessness approached hysteria.” Amidst the lavish Gatsby-themed parties that seem to be a favorite of [...]

Regardless of how good Blunderbuss is, Jack White’s (@thirdmanrecords) name and past history as one of the world's greatest living guitarists will be enough to earn the album plenty of ears and surrounding opinions. Given his over-a-decade long presence in popular music, it’s difficult to believe that this is actually his debut solo record. Blunderbuss , though, confirms what White’s audience has always been aware of: he's an artist not interested in creating the newest sound on the scene, but in revitalizing classic music and injecting it with a new, electric energy. [...]
When The White Stripes split was announced in February 2011, it wasn't a surprise for anyone. And the main reason for that is Jack White 's continuous involvement in side projects that became more than one-time things: The Raconteurs with Brendan Benson and Dead Weather with Alison Mosshart from The Kills . Though success was still there for Detroit blues-rock star, his performances with both bands had shown he couldn't lose his habit of stealing the spotlight, being the center of attention even as a singing drummer in Dead Weather. He is [...]

Jack White Blunderbuss Third Man In some ways Jack White's Blunderbuss, the first solo offering by the one-time White Stripes frontman, is exactly what one would expect. The songs, sometimes ferocious and rowdy, but often times quieter and more contemplative, are solidly based in the blues, American roots, and garage rock. There's guitar wail and guitar squawk, especially on songs like "Sixteen Saltines" and "Freedom at 213 where that squawk is live-wire, touch it and get yourself fried, electric, similar to the sound of an old White Stripes track like "Blue [...]

The most surprising thing about Blunderbuss , the debut solo release from Jack White , is that it took so long to arrive. With the plethora of side projects he's been involved in since the White Stripes ran out of ideas (ie. after Get Behind Me Satan ) you'd think he's have said 'screw it, I'm doing it myself', long before now. The first impressions of "Sixteen Saltines" is made by a guitar part that sounds like a rank amateur (someone of say, my pathetic skill level) goofing around with their first effects pedal. [...]
Ty Segall and Timothy "White Fence" Presley combine their psych rock wonder powers for Hair . We're back after taking a week off for a little R&R in Mexico last week (sorry Spiritualized and Moonface... we'll get you next time). This week is marked by a lot of classic guitar-based rock influences. Ty Segall and White Fence hole up in a garage for 30 minutes of psych rock fun, while Jack White puts all his appreciation of rock history into his debut solo release. Elsewhere, White's Raconteur partner Brendan Benson returns with an [...]

Blunderbuss is not the The White Stripes , or The Raconteurs , or The Dead Weather . It’s an album built straight from the mind of Jack White . A guy born too late, who’s always on the move, always creating, and never doing the same thing twice. Blunderbuss is an eccentric, vaudevillian show produced by a mad-man, and it’s amazing. Listening to Blunderbuss is like going on a stroll through Jack White’s mind. It has an “era-gone-past” vibe to it, and can be a happy, sad [...]

An unsurprisingly brilliant effort from a man who, as of yet, hasn’t made a bad record

With yesterday's release of the new Jack White album " Blunderbuss ", we've been introduced to the solo career of Jack White . From " The White Stripes " to " The Raconteurs " and "The Dead Weather" Jack has done it all. He's now truly a "Jack of All Trades". This album, being Jack White's first full-length solo album, is a great start to the beginning of his solo career. Its a great blend of his signature "Garage Rock" sound displayed more in " The White Stripes " [...]
I don’t think this is an album that anyone can approach without expectations. Released ten years after we met Jack White through the White Stripes’ breakout hit, “Fell in Love With A Girl,” Blunderbuss comes with a lot of baggage, most of it caught up in a man who invents his own myths, making him both iconic, untrustworthy, and unforgettable, his presence felt in all of his music. Always theatrical, elusive, and rebellious to the core, Jack’s solo album, built on ostensibly sad or disillusioned lyrics, feels more distant and less sincere than his work in the White Stripes, [...]
After the breakup of the White Stripes, Jack White perseveres forward with Blunderbuss charting his new creative course with an even more appealing sonic direction.
It seems like most music fans have grown alongside Jack White. From the underdog to juggernaut that he is today, White's journey has been a very public affair. At the same time, there isn't a lot that is known about White himself. This neat trick has made for great listening experiences and on Blunderbuss, White's [...]

Early last year, Jack White told BBC Radio 42s Today that he almost chose religion over music. "I was thinking at 14 that possibly I might have had the calling to be a priest," he explained. "Blues singers and people who are singing on stage have the same feelings and emotions that someone who is called to be a priest might have." There's a lot to take away from that, and it gives a little context to his most lucrative venture thus far: Third Man Records. For the past decade, White has established an undeniably thrilling [...]

‘Blunderbuss’! I mean, what a name for an album; it conjures up images of old fashioned battlefields and a wall of sound thundering towards you. Now *that* is what I expect from the album then, you’ve got yourself a hard sell their Jackie boy! That said, this is Jack White, stepping out on his own for the very first time, to record his first solo record. On first listen, it’s classic coming out music: the lyrics are all about collapsed relationships and loves lost. It begins with some classic Jack White honkytonkery. [...]
Jack White Blunderbuss out 4/24 MP3 | CD | Vinyl | Stream A To say that Blunderbuss is Jack White’s first solo album can be misleading. With all due respect to erstwhile bandmate Meg White (and she deserves much more than she gets), it’s no secret The White Stripes’ leader worked with an obsessive degree of detail, shaping every facet of that duo’s sound and image. Jack himself recently told [...]

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars Jack White 's pretty much done everything musically speaking at this point: he's played in various bands ( White Stripes , Raconteurs , etc) and he's produced/written with music legends. Heck, he even got to date Bridget Jones and marry a British super model, so what does he have left to prove to us? Absolutely nothing...and that's the point of Blunderbuss . Old fans of Jack's will probably enjoy the album opener "Missing Pieces;" it seems like one of [...]
A few months after The White Stripes called it quits, Jack White has announced a solo album, Blunderbuss . On first listen, The Black Belles' debut is quite comfortable; it feels like an old standby. That might be because I'm a big fan of The White Stripes and The Dead Weather, two bands that have Jack White's weird influence. After having been signed and produced by White, this band has his presence going for them as well. Everything Jack White touches is tinted with his unique style, although I'm definitely not complaining. In addition to influences from White, The Black Belles have a very garage-band feel to their music. Their songs are simple but full of energy, and they [...]
