About 200 of you guys participated in our annual readers poll, and the results were tight. You had the chance to vote for 5 albums, and I gave each album a point value, decreasing with each vote. So first place got 5 points, second place got 4, etc... The race was very close between Frank Ocean & Tame Impala, but in the end, Frank Ocean took home the Orange gold. All in all, the taste of you faithful bunch alligns quite well with mine, minus Mumford & Sons. In total, 252!! albums were voted for, which is insane. [...]

Thanks To Camilo for this great artwork. Looking back at 2012, there were plenty of albums that I loved. Was it the best year of music in recent memory? Maybe not, but it was a damn good year in its own right. There is a lot that we may look back on and remember well into the rest of the decade. This year I listed my Top 40 albums, as well as a few honorable mentions that were as close to making my list as they come. I didn't get to listen [...]
As I looked over my playlists from the year 2012, I have tried to only add the songs that either charge me up or songs that seem to find a way to my heart and soul. Here are my favorites for 2012. I couldn’t possibly rank them, so they are simply listed in the order that they were released. Editor's Note: The majority of the songs are in a playlist at the bottom of the post page. Cloud Nothings - "Stay Useless" This song reminds me of that awkward wonky [...]

It hasn't been the strongest year for rock music. Plenty of albums were released but not many really stuck to the ribs and latched on tight. However, there were some exceptions, and on today's episode of the Rock it Out! Blog, Sami shares his top five picks for the best rock albums of 2012. After checking out the episode, feel free to comment and let us know which rock album or albums you feel were the best. The first week in our 2012 Annual Report has come to an end. But what an end it is: our Top 50 Songs of 2012. For this list, we took into consideration the tracks that not only spoke to the year, but each respective act's ability to grow and engage their mind, genre, and sound. That might sound spiritual and what have you, but okay, maybe you're not a fan of dreamcatchers and stuff. Whatever. Feel free to let us know what you think, including some tracks you'll take into 2013 with you. Also, stay tuned [...]

This past year, I finally put my eyes to the test, armed myself with a semi-expensive camera, and hit the photo pits. Now, I had previously wiggled my way up to the front of the crowds with a point-and-shoot in our early days, but I'd never really attempted to put myself in the shoes of a professional photographer. Within five minutes, I realized how stressful and yet how thrilling the position can be. There's a sense of community that photographers have that writers never really will. While some express lens-envy, and yeah it's really ridiculous and uber-showy, most [...]

“A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.” -Willy Wonka ...Trail of Dead – “Catatonic” Vote Rich Dobney. Or, don't. Angel Haze – “Werkin’ Girls” Where did she get that Freddy Krueger claw-glove of hers? Must have! Cloud Nothings – “Fall In” Hey, just because they're loud-mouthed garage rockers doesn't mean they can't do a black and white dance number every so often. Death Grips - "World of Dogs" [...]

It's halftime in America... In fact, it's halftime everywhere. Half a year of music has happened and MTIB is here to let you know what albums are the best of the year... in our opinion, so far. Clint Eastwood is here too, but only because it's halftime. He doesn't have anything to contribute to our album list. Enjoy the list and feel free to share the albums you think we forgot in the 'comments' section below. Willis Earl Beal - Acousmatic Sorcery Chicago-native, discharged from the army for health reasons, previous Sears [...]

When I was about seven years old, I once asked my mother to buy me an action figure of Cliff Secord, the sky-flying hero from the 1991 box office flop, The Rocketeer . Terrified that I had abandoned my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, after I had spent over two years' worth of allowance (AKA her money) on the countless series of figures, she basically replied, "Well, will the Rocketeer help out your Ninja Turtles?" The crossover idea never occurred to me at the time, but I quickly spun around with excited eyes and screamed back, "Mom, that's a great idea!" [...]
