To get you all riled up and excited like I am for the opening of the new film It Might Get Loud (opening in coastal NY/LA theaters Friday), I have a sweet poster signed by director Davis Guggenheim to give away. I got little goosebumps of excitement when I saw this trailer, and I might have even uttered a profanity (sorry Mom). Blue Orchid - White Stripes From the clips I've seen, this movie draws me in [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , Movies Hitting select theaters this Friday is ' It Might Get Loud ,' Davis Guggenheim 's latest film since the poignant, Oscar-winning ' An Inconvenient Truth .' The focus here is on three guitar gods of different generations: Jimmy Page , the Edge and Jack White . While a good portion of the film has all three sitting down at what they call "The Summit," the White Stripes frontman provides the film's most interesting, if not entertaining moments. [...]

It's been years since the name Oak Ridge Boys has been on my radar, several in fact. The most recent time involved several middle aged men lip-synching "Elvira" at a Baptist church talent show, and before that a birthday present I received from my grandparents who had recorded Elvira back to back to back over the entire side A of a blank tape so that I could listen to it repeatedly without ever having to bother with rewinding. It wasn't again that I thought of them until yesterday when Shazam came to the rescue once again (what did [...]

We guess recording and touring with three different bands just isn't enough for Jack White as the White Stripes/Raconteurs/Dead Weather member managed to squeeze in enough time to set to wax his solo debut via a single titled Fly Farm Blues. The song, which was recorded during the filming of the upcoming documentary It Might Get Loud , will be released on White's label, Third Man Records, on 7-inch single and digital download August 11. List Time: Top 10 Sophomore Releases Of The '00s [...]

Diavolo d’un Jack White, proprio non riesce a stare fermo senza chitarra in mano. Leader fondatore dei significativi White Stripes , dei Racounters, non ultimi dei The Dead Weather , produttore discografico e pure attore a tempo perso (protagonista del rock-umentario It might get loud di David Guggenhaim) ha anche il tempo per dedicarsi ad una carriera da solista. Pitchfork anticipa che il brano "Fly Farm Blues" uscirà l’11 agosto su etichetta dello stesso Jack, la Third Man Records, in versione digitale e su LP singolo. Il [...]
The Dead Weather formed in Nashville in March and quickly threw together their first record, Horehound . A mélange of Southern rock/garage/grunge/classic rock, it was released a couple of weeks ago on White’s record label, Third Man Records. From the White Stripes to the Raconteurs to his current incarnation, it's pretty obvious Jack White loves to work on as many projects as possible. There is an unbelievable amount of talent seething from this quartet: lead singer Alison Mosshart is one half of duo the Kills, Dean Fertita plays in Queens of the Stone Age, and Jack [...]
As Monday's sold out Dead Weather show progressed it became quite clear that the band is much more Alison Mosshart's "side project" than Jack White's, as she owned the stage and the songs while White was content to mostly stay in the shadows.

Jack White is best known as the frontman for the White Stripes, but these days he’s making waves in plenty of other ways. Whether it’s his newest project The Dead Weather, his new record label, his vinyl-fetishist record store, or his appearance in guitar god documentary It Might Get Loud , White’s a hard man to avoid. It’s hard to keep track of all his musical projects, but here’s an attempt at an overview. In chronological order, here’s a look at the other (ie. Meg-free) side of Jack White. [...]

If you've never wondered what it might be like to wake up in the morning and find a handful of deadbeat, derelict, drunken rockers sprawled out all over your kitchen crackhouse style, then you don't have The Dead Weather's debut album and you need to obtain it... Pronto. You blink when you breathe And you breathe when you lie You blink when you lie You blink when you breathe And you breathe when you lie It's called Horehound , and it was recorded [...]

As if White didn't already have enough on his plate, the multi-talented artist announced that he has plans to launch a White Stripes Archive service. The service cost $20 per month, and will give fans access to a lot of video/audio from shows spanning their entire career. Even more enticing, is the fact that fans will be entered into lottery prizes. "Some members are getting into shows before anyone else now just by lottery," he said. "Some might get rare records randomly sent to them via mail order (or handed to them by me even!). [...]

The White Stripes have confirmed on their official website and MySpace that a live documentary of their 2007 tour of Canada will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on September 18. The film is entitled Under Great White Northern Lights and was filmed by Emmet Malloy , who worked previously with the band on promotional videos. The tour took the band to every province and territory of Canada, and the documentary provides a unique profile of the band as they played crowds big and small across the Great White North. The [...]

For the longest time, I missed the boat on getting into The White Stripes until a year or so ago, but I came to rather love Jack White ’s first side project, The Raconteurs , from the get go. Their two albums demanded quite a bit of spins in my truck on late nights driving around town. Suffice to say when White announced this next project, The Dead Weather , I was rather curious and excited considering the lineup of this new band consisted of Alison [...]

Just as Mount Righteous frequently receives erroneous associations to fellow Dallas big band Polyphonic Spree based almost solely on the number of members it has, I'm sure Denton's own RTB2 gets its fair share of fallacious White Stripes comparisons. Sure there are two of them and like the Stripes RTB2 are talented enough to make you forget all about bass instruments, but that's where the similarities end. For one thing, judging from their raucous live performances, drummer Grady Don Sandlin could drum circles around Meg White --probably with one arm and leg tied behind his back. And while [...]
Story time, boys and girls. Please circle around... I was able to catch The White Stripes during the band's now memorable 2007 cross-Canadian tour. You know, the one on which Jack and Meg hit up every providence - and territory! - playing some equally memorable and spontaneous afternoon gigs along the way. Hell, they hit a city bus and warehouse for Pete's sake! Yeah, that one! Well, anyway, I remember thinking then how righteous Jack White looked up on stage and how I hoped to remember that red devil for a long [...]

If there was one thing I totally didn't expect to see when I got home tonight, it was a Diplo remix of a Dead Weather song. Being a huge fan of both artists though, I was definitely happy to Diplo make his triumphant return to the remix game today with this oddball of a track from the Dead Weather. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally in love with the Dead Weather's debut album, but oddly enough "Treat Me Like Your Mother" is one my least my favorite tracks on the album. I say oddly enough, because it's one of the [...]
not really much, but when the white stripes do something, i'll write about it every time
The Wall Street Journal Jack White, the businessman. Included online is this little video wherein the Dirtbombs' Ben Blackwell leads us on a tour of the vinyl pressing plant: Pretty cool to see the records getting stamped, but how long...

I’m going to say the unthinkable: I wish Jack White wasn’t in the Dead Weather. I know that’s blasphemous, not to mention illogical; if the band was White-free, no one, myself included, would have heard of them. Live though, his presence is simply distracting. Let me explain. I’m as big a Jack White fan as they come. I’ ve seen the White Stripes live four times (reviews here , here , and here ) and the Raconteurs the same (reviews here , here , here [...]

The Dead Weather - "Are Friends Electric?" the only tune i've heard off the record where everyone else in the band isn't trying to sound like jack white (guitars, vox, band, etc.). perhaps a direction for the next record? and i'd without a doubt have to agree on the media shit. getitgetitgetit rating: 7.5

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive With the amount of projects he has going, it may seem like everything, at least musically, comes easy to Jack White . In reality, the White Stripes frontman found that his Dead Weather role of handling drum and vocal duties was much more difficult than anticipated. "It's new territory for me," White tells Spinner. "No doubt about that." Though he's added percussion to White Stripes tracks like 'The Nurse,' White's return to his original instrument started [...]
