A few days back the mysterious creator of 'Jasmine' and 'BTSTU', Jai Paul , seemingly (without warning) released his self-titled album. However, we held off on posting his supposed debut due to a series of rumours suggesting that the record was a fake. Sure enough, on Monday morning, Paul opened a twitter account in order to set the record straight and announced that the demos that were released were not uploaded by him and Jai Paul was not his debut album. Although it's been nearly two years since Jai Paul released his first single "BTSTU," it's clear he is in no rush to drop an album's worth of material for us to savor. Nonetheless, when he does release a new track it is smooth. The demo for his latest track, "Jasmine," is a distorted & wobbling R&B jam anchored by a bright and funky bass-line, echo-heavy handclaps, and his tuned-up vocals. It sounds as if it could burst apart at the seams at nearly any moment and if that compelling groove wasn't so effortlessly holding it all together.
Monumental news on the Jai Paul front; he's actually released (or leaked) a second song since remastering 20072s stellar "BTSTU" in 2010. "Jasmine" is quite a bit of a saxy slow jam and has much more to chew on, but still has the same goods you've come to expect from London's hit and hit producer. [...]
While most of everybody out there was riding “BTSTU” from Jai Paul pretty hard last year, I was not one of them. His new demo though, “Jasmine”, has officially made me a fan and easily one of the best things I have heard this year. Think of it as futuristic smoothness that would be too cool for your parents to listen to. If Aladdin ever sang this to his lady, there is no doubt he would be getting laid that night.
The case of London soloist Jai Paul is a funny one. "BTSTU" was an eclectic twist on modern pop. But then, as if magic, he seemed to disappear without a trace. But the man is back, and late last night new track "Jasmine" found its way online. continue reading >>

NIIA covers the 2011 favorite, Jai Paul's BTSTU. The song is a personal favorite and I have to admit that the name NIIA is unfamiliar to my ears. But when I've read that she has worked with Wyclef and this very interesting take on the only released track from Jai Paul will render any listener enchanted.
