The passing of Avenged Sevenfold drummer James "The Rev" Sullivan left many fans of the band wondering what would happen next regarding their new album. It turns out that A7X will go on with the new record and make it a fitting tribute for their fallen bandmate. The band will have Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy playing drums on the new album. Portnoy was specifically asked to fill in since he was The Rev's favorite drummer. The band released a statement on their website talking about the selection of Portnoy. [...]

Just when I thought that all the sad news of the year was over, we've lost another talented musician way too young. Avenged Sevenfold drummer and founding member James Owen Sullivan, aka The Rev, passed away at his home in Huntington Beach, CA yesterday, reports Orange County Register ( via Rock it Out! Blog ). He was only 28. Details are scarce at this time, but police say they believe Sullivan's death to be of natural causes. Barring a revelation of an illness or unusual circumstance, we're guessing that a more accurate and/or specific cause of [...]

You want a Great Pop Moment? James Brown playing Boston Garden right after MLK's assassination, having it broadcast live on TV, and having the city respond by largely staying home and not destroying the city—that's one for the ages. Which makes it kind of odd that no one thought to write a book about it until now. Not just any book, either. The Hardest Working Man: How James Brown Saved the Soul of America may have been saddled with an ungainly, not-exactly-appropriate subtitle [...]

Anyone who has the following list amongst his influences on MySpace deserves to be listened to in my book! "U2, Nirvana, The Doors, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Radiohead, Oasis, Pink Floyd, Green Day, Johnny Cash, Christy Moore, Ennio Morricone" James has an extensive musical and personal biography on his MySpace which I'll try to summarise. James is from Tramore in Co. Waterford. In the last few years he has been playing gigs and recording with another Irish Singer-songwriter Ross Kearly. It was Ross who encouraged James to take centre stage and bring his brand of piano based tunes [...]
