Only two days left until Sasquatch! begins. Tomorrow and the next day will see thousands of avid music fans journeying to The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, WA, prepping their campsites, stocking up on alcohol and drugs in anticipation of dozens of amazing performances. This year's lineup boasts some fantastic talent , such as The xx, Vampire Weekend, Sigur R ós, The Postal Service, Disclosure, Arctic Monkeys, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros and many, many more. It's a lineup worth salivating over. As the festival quickly approaches, I've put together [...]

Bonnaroo is a super-big music festival that happens out in the (where is it?) weather-y place that is most certainly Manchester, Tennessee. Big news, guys! Daniel Tosh is playing Bonnaroo this year! Also with him (that we're stoked on) are Wilco, Wu-Tang Clan, The National, Grizzly Bear, Tame Impala, and Jim James doing two different sets (as far as I can tell). Solid lineup though, you can pick your favorites if you want! Below we have a video of Daniel Tosh (?) talking about Bonnaroo then some crazy 3-D band names. Check it out. Buy tickets here . [...]

Though I'm the sort of guy that likes his Primus in normal 2-D, this Sasquatch 2013 lineup is packed with some serious good energy. You've got The Postal Service reuniting (and maybe Ben Gibbard runs in to Danny Brown randomly and he's all like "You wanna collab?" Because, like that seems like something that would happen nowadays) and indie megas like Sigur Ros, Vampire Weekend, The XX, and Arctic Monkeys. And everyone is allowed to smoke pot. Like legally. I think. Check out the trailer below. As an added bonus watch a video [...]

Festival line-up announcement season is in full swing, reminding us that the cold will soon let up and we'll be able to rock out to our favorite music in the sunshine. Every year, we rave about how incredible Sasquatch! Festival is, with the breathtaking views of The Gorge in Washington and the laid back vibes you get camping with mostly Northwesterners and Canadians (they are SO nice). This year is no different. The Postal Service continue their tour of festivals with a headlining gig this year, joining Mumford [...]

Well, it took a bit longer than expected (losing your job in November and having a baby in January will disrupt the blog-writing process a bit), but Given and Taken in Ink's list for best albums of 2012 is finally here. This year, a handful of bands came out of nowhere and blew me away. I knew right away that debut albums from Drew Smith and The Rest would stand among the best releases of the year. They are joined by 28 other great albums, by artists well-known and obscure. I'm pleased that GTI's 2012 list is a [...]

Artwork by Francesca Bonifacio Yesterday, we unveiled your picks for our 2012 Reader's Poll , and today we're continuing our year-end coverage by revealing our Honorable Mentions. 2012 was a great year for music, and it was tough to only choose 31 albums, so we made sure to include some picks that we enjoyed but didn't quite make it on our list . Be sure to come back to the site everyday for the rest of the week to see our Best EPs and Best Songs of 2012, along with our personal picks [...]
About 200 of you guys participated in our annual readers poll, and the results were tight. You had the chance to vote for 5 albums, and I gave each album a point value, decreasing with each vote. So first place got 5 points, second place got 4, etc... The race was very close between Frank Ocean & Tame Impala, but in the end, Frank Ocean took home the Orange gold. All in all, the taste of you faithful bunch alligns quite well with mine, minus Mumford & Sons. In total, 252!! albums were voted for, which is insane. [...]
By The Spinning Platters Staff Every website has a Top XX albums of the year list. This one is ours, and there is nothing by The xx on it. I mean, I really like The xx's Coexist. There were just 20 records that came out this year that were better. Maybe you'll find something that [...]

Thanks To Camilo for this great artwork. Looking back at 2012, there were plenty of albums that I loved. Was it the best year of music in recent memory? Maybe not, but it was a damn good year in its own right. There is a lot that we may look back on and remember well into the rest of the decade. This year I listed my Top 40 albums, as well as a few honorable mentions that were as close to making my list as they come. I didn't get to listen [...]

Well, the world didn't end, so I guess I need to get my year-end list up. Like in previous years, I aim to make this list a mix of what I enjoyed and spun the most as well as what also was good, technically-speaking, in my opinion. I think people often put far too much weight behind what a year-end list contains, as if what's listed at #5 or #1 is the God's honest truth. If you thought Carly Rae Jepsen's album was the best album of the year, right on. For as much as music writers critique the year's [...]

Clif's top ten list for 2012 with twenty others receiving honorable mention: 10. Cat Meat – Cat Meat We previewed Cat Meat’s self-titled debut as a Friday Free Feature on November 9, and it’s been in constant rotation between my iPod and car stereo. A complex, experimental alt. country/folk album that claims influences such as Wilco, Sparklehorse and Califone; the classic psychedelic experimenalist, Captain Beefheart; and the legendary bluesmen Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Willie McTell. When you listen, they’re all there in subtle drips, drabs and dollops. [...]
There were albums I loved, albums I liked, albums I appreciated and albums I avoided in 2012. Because of my regional focus, I spent an inordinate amount of time with music from Los Angeles artists . And strangely for me, a lot of the hyped bands failed to resonate; stuck in traffic, I'd rather have played that Killers album or one of the Green Day discs than Alt-J. I'm sure it was just a phase. For what it's worth, my favorite 20 albums of the year: [...]

Going in this year, I realized the previous year-end-list formatting was a bit limited. I opted for lengthy descriptions of the year's best songs, other than adding more. Looking at both, I opted to add more without the colorful paragraphs that follow. So as of today, here is the first edition of Bears and Bullets Top 50 Songs Of 2012 (part one): #50: Chvrches - The Mother We Share #49: Criminal Hygiene - Rearrange [...]

(photo by cubagallery ) We're quickly approaching the end of 2012 and/or the world depending on your interpretation of Mayan prophecy, and that can only mean it's time to reflect on the best albums of the year. For me, one record stood head and shoulders above the rest in 2012, so album of the year was an easy decision, but there was much deliberation for the other 24 positions (plus, honorable mentions). This was one of the most diverse years of music in recent memory, with pop, guitar-oriented rock, folk music, indie-pop and electronica all being represented [...]

Continuing from yesterday, here are the top ten selections for Bears and Bullets Top Albums Of 2012 : #10: Royal Headache - Royal Headache Two genre's effectively broke the mold to land on top this year; rap and garage punk. So to say one album effectively defined both is difficult. But among the glorious renderings that the [...]
We're all going to die on December 21, which is fine. Nothing like going down in a big, fiery blaze because some long-dead culture decided December 21, 2012 was the [...] The post The 12 Other Albums You Should've Listened to This Year appeared first on The Smoking Section .
