1. Snowmine - "The Hill" Typically by the time there's snow settling outside I'm listening religiously to somber acoustic songs. This year that has not been the case.Brooklyn natives Snowmine and their sweet little track "The Hill" exemplifies the more upbeat music I'm digging into lately.

Recommended Show: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2011 THE COUP & JAPANTHER @ BROOKLYN BOWL 61 Wythe Ave Brooklyn, NY 11211 $8, 9PM This certainly seems like an interesting pairing for a show. Teaming political hip-hoppers The Coup with noisy hipsters Japanther just seems like an amazing idea. Brooklyn's busiest art-punks, Japanther are set to release their eighth full-length, bearing the satiating title Beets, Limes and Rice. The album will hit shelves on October 18th via numerous formats and labels: Recess Records will deliver digital and vinyl modes, Lauren Records the cassette version, and Japanther's own Tapes Records will stamp the CD. Speaking with Exclaim , drummer Ian Vanek said the 14-track effort deals with the loss of Beau Velasco, a dear friend of Japanther and [...]
Jelly NYC brings the party back to North Brooklyn with a free show this afternoon at The Morgan. The Death Set, So So Glos, Cerebral Ballzy, Japanther, The Growlers and CSC Funk Band are playing. That, my friends, is awesome!

Last night, I think I got about as close to Brooklyn's early 00's punk mess as anyone these days should come. Before everyone started talking about this borough ad infinitum, there was the great and all-powerful Japanther representing, and last night at Music Hall of Williamsburg they came out in force to celebrate ten years underground, along with buddies Shellshag and Heavy Cream. Now a decade old, they're reaching middle age time, where they've become something of a reluctant institution. The hipster symbol of last night's party, complete with a decades' worth of silly string, [...]
Was ich dabei so alles entdeckt habe, davon will ich hier berichten. Prag mag zwar nicht in der ersten Liga der europäischen Hipster-Metropolen spielen, doch neben der ganzen architektonischen Schönheit und einer angenehmen Entspanntheit hat die Stadt auch ein [...]
I can tell you right now, you're either going to love Atom and His Package's "The First CD" album, or you are going to completely despise it. There seems to be very little in between when it comes to this Philadelphia one man synth rocker.Atom and His Package released "The First CD" back in 1997 and compared to his later releases, it contains the most light-hearted and silly songs. Mixing

Day 2 of 35 Conferette I opted to skip most of the daytime shows (besides Dr. Dog) and instead headed into the night at Haileys to see the closest thing to a "punk show" 35 Conferette had put together this year - that being Leg Sweeper, Record Hop, and Japanther. Leg Sweeper got things started with their 2-man brand of Wavves-style nerd rock, its all partying, drinking, and girls - so I guess its the natural evolution of subjects the Beach Boys started so many years ago. This band has great potential to blow-up if they [...]

Finally, finally get round to showcasing what February has in store for me/you/us in the coming weeks.... TUESDAY 8th FEBRUARY ------------ BRIGHT EYES @ Oran Mor It starts off tonight with Saddle Creeks finest, the unashamedly solemn Bright Eyes performing at the Oran Mor. Unfortunately for me, regardless of the gig being 10 minutes ftom my flat, i won't be making it as it's fucking sold out. Gutted. I'm not the only one of my friends to miss out though so we'll take solace by listening [...]

2010 was quite a year. It saw graduations, festivals, a move from Athens to Barcelona, the discovery of a new city, a slight, um, slowing down of our blog activity, a World Cup, many flights (17 for me), and a lot of great music. So, without further ado, we present to you: So, how did we compile this rather fantastic list, you ask? Easy, we consulted our trusty last.fm profiles (see the bottom of this page for our individual profiles). We then each chose our top 25 and [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News The Rock and Roll Circus descended upon Manhattan on Monday and Tuesday, but instead of setting up in a deserted lot, it was nestled in the courtyard next to Lincoln Center. The tented arena was a labyrinth of face-painting booths, snack stations and a giant ring for music acts that included Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti and Amazing Baby . Nightlife personality Acid Betty, dressed in a Marie Antoinette-meets- David-Bowie get-up, served as [...]
Last night was the first night of the Rock And Roll Circus at the Big Apple Circus tent in Lincoln Center. The show was free and some of Brooklyn's finest were playing. That combined with the fact that it's a show in a fucking circus tent meant there was no way I was missing it. I got to the show early because I was worried about getting in. Turns out the tent is gigantic so I had nothing to
