By Trevor Meyer Shimmering Stars come to us from Merritt, British Columbia. "Hold on Magnolia" is an ambient slow burner that shines a bright light amongst the modern, oversaturated shoegaze scene. The early Jason Molina era tune draws inspiration from classic early 60's artists such as Del Shannon and The Everly Brothers. "Hold on Magnolia" channels the inventiveness of the past greats and transforms into a melancholic, yet hopeful piece. A perfect supplement for relaxation and contemplation. [...]

It's been a while since we've heard from Jason Molina. After releasing the hauntingly great 2009 album, Molina and Johnson , with Centro-matic's Will Johnson, Molina cancelled the tour that was supposed to follow, and since then there hasn't been much news from him. Well, it turns out he needs our help. According to the Secretly Canadian website , Molina has spent the past two years in and out of hospitals and rehab centers dealing with some serious health concerns. And while Molina and those around him seem hopeful that he can fully recover and return [...]

My introduction to Jason Molina's musical output was late, a bit backwards, and came entirely by chance. In 2003, as a junior in College, I had problems sleeping. That is to say, I couldn't sleep. I attempted cutting down on caffeine, doing exercises to tire myself, writing lists of things I needed to accomplish for [...]

Songs: Ohia — Didn't It Rain From Didn't It Rain ( Secretly Canadian ; 2002) If they think you got it they're gonna beat it out of you / Through work and debt, whatever all else there is
The opening track from the first Jason Molina studio effort post Songs: Ohia. Really good stuff.
The title of this post was actually a recent tweet from one of my music life-mates Laura this morning. And it could be one of the most true things one could ever say to me. Jason Molina (or Jason as I know him) is, in my opinion, one of the greatest musician types I have ever listened to. He has crossed from pretty much solo, to a full band to actual solo and all with stunning perfection. Songs: Ohia, Magnolia Electric Co. and then Jason Molina - the guy is all time folks, all time. Just a reminder. [...]

J. Tillman had a great one-off record last year entitled Year in the Kingdom . Or at least I thought it was a one-off. As drummer for pfork sweethearts Fleet Foxes , I treated Tillman's solo work as just that, something like one of those Strokes going solo, or a Beastie Boy having a "music baby." A quick search proved my folly, when I discovered that Tillman has no fewer than five albums released in the last decade. My reliance on AMG's sparse page on Tillman kept me in the dark for [...]
:: We know you want to follow Lil Wayne 's journey in prison . Hopefully it doesn't entail any soap dropping. Unless that's Weezy's thang. In which case we hope there's plenty of it. We don't judge here at Buzzgrinder. :: So now that former Attack Attack! frontman Austin Carlile is Of Mice & Men 's former frontman as well, does that mean he'll start a third crapcore crabcore band to help prop up sales of the ailing icepick industry? You know, because it makes people want to poke [...]
