Shigeto : Facebook | Twitter I was super inspired from all the love in the air for Jay Dee's Birthday today. Got me thinking about what an inspiration Detroit music is. Then got me thinking about other Detroit artists. Then got me thinking about Aaliyah, another amazing talent that we lost way to soon. So I made this. Inspired by Aaliyah, Jay Dee and Detroit. RIP AALIYAH - RIP JAY DEE - Shigeto Tour Dates: [...]

Sad, because it involves 3 late musicians, all who made huge impacts in the music culture. Both Seba Jun, better known as Nujabes, and James Yancey, better known as J Dilla, were both born on this day (the same day, in 1974 to be exact). Rapper Big Pun passed on this day, but to think that a day can mean so much to fans worldwide should not go unnoticed. Take a few moments of silence for these men, and think about how fragile life is. None of these men even made it to their 402s, but they left an impact [...]

In honor of what would've been J Dilla's 38th birthday, The Primeridian drop their Dilla-dedicated What If Jay Dee produced PCP? project, where they revisit many of Mr. Yancey's best and brightest productions. And I guess this is as good of time as any to plug my ' The 50 Best Dilla Songs ' piece I did for Complex Mag. I take a look back at 50 records he had a hand in, and share my thoughts-a must read for any real fan of Dilla Dog. Check it here. [...]

For the second year in a row, Juicy & The Doctor's Orders have teamed up and put on an event in Manchester to celebrate the life of J Dilla. This was the first of three similar events to take place in the UK this year and it went off with a bang. There were a couple of special guests this year; Phat Kat (who hosted the night and performed a couple of his classic tracks) and Dilla's mother, Ma Dukes Yancey. The sounds for the evening were provided by Manchester DJs Mr Scruff, Air Adam, Mr E, Illum Sphere, Jonny [...]
Jay Dee - Reminisce (Instrumental) Happy Birthday J Dilla
Today marks the sixth anniversary of the release of J. Dilla's final record, the 31 track masterpiece Donuts. A significant date not only because it was released on Dilla's birthday, but also three days before he passed away at the much-too-young age of 32. We take a look at his final work.

Today is the day known as Dilla Day. The day to celebrate James DeWitt Yancey, known as John Doe, MC Silk, Jay Dee, or most commonly J Dilla, and all he has done for music. Below me and another iLS writer, Nikko, have put together some of, but not all, our favorite tracks with Dilla. If you feel there are any crucial tracks missing hit us up in the comments below and we'll add them. Anyway, iLS wishes you a happy Dilla Day, we just want you all to relax and chill out to some tunes celebrating the day of [...]
![Ma Dukes aka Maureen Yancey talks about the J Dilla Foundation, the importance of the Arts, and new album 'Rebirth of Detroit' [Feature Interview]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4017119_lg.jpg)
Just as J Dilla aka Jay Dee aka James Dewitt Yancey's music had magically appeared into my life, so had my connection with the J Dilla Foundation. It all started with a simple Facebook friend request from Marketing/Brand Manager Diana Boardley. I usually don't go through with random friend requests but this time I took a glance just to see what it was that brought this new person into my life. Upon clicking Diana's profile I noticed her affiliation with the J Dilla foundation and the rest is history. Eccentric: Hello Ma Dukes! Thank you for taking the [...]

Very dope gem, found by the brothers at BamaLoveSou l. J Dilla & Phife...win win chemistry. Aw naw! As I was compiling gems for my A Tribe Called Quest tribute set tonight, I uncovered this 1999 Phife Dawg release. This jazzy Jay Dee produced gem appeared on a German release and was the B Side to Bend Ova, also produced by Jay Dee. Somehow, for whatever reason, this track didn't make it onto his album and now it's hard to find. Enjoy! - BamaLovesSoul [...]

The Hi-Hat Club is back. Some of the best albums to come out in 2010, where from MPM, and the Hi-Hat Club series was right at the top of that list. Vol.5 was released back in August, and I am glad to see yet another volume, before the end of the year. DJ Adlib is bringing the Hi-Hat Club back to Cologne. „Haus & Garten" is the sixth installment of our producer series and we're taking things to the next level with this one. Not only because Adlib has chosen to share the spotlight [...]

Madlib aka Otis Jackson is one of the most prolific producers in hip hop. The Oxnard, CA native has done it all. He's so well respected by musical peers, that the Blue Note record label gave him the individual recordings and stems of their legendary vault of music just for him to create his remix album, Shades of Blue. It's amazing. Not to mention he collaborated with one of the best hip hop producers to ever touch an MPC, J Dilla. Dig some of his music below, old and new. EZ - Blu - [...]

Quelle Chris - Shotgun & Sleek Rifle Fat Beats: 2011 There is no denying I'm a sucker for the type of rap Shotgun & Sleek Rifle encompasses. That smoked out unhinged punk-hop grounded on obscure loops and dusty drums that provide more of a pulse than a knock. Murky decapitated funk oozes out of songs, as guitar riffs flail comfortably next to forgotten soul tracks that are looped up with little to no sample chop or mix-down. Inside of this intoxicating mess is Quelle Chris spittin' fly rhymes that [...]

(Click Album Art to Download) I don't remember how I came across this album or these songs, but this combination of J-Dilla sounds and Beach Boys tunes work extremely well. Kind of like the mash-up of Wu Tang VS The Beatles "Enter The Magical Mystery Chamber", one would never think that the two groups' music would work so well together. I've had this tape for awhile, but just re-discovered it on my computer. I should definitely give Bullion more spins; got to show love to those artists out of London. Bullion - Wouldn't It [...]
