John Blek & the Rats - Leave Your Love at the Door (self-released) John Blek and his Rats have crafted a perfectly diverting album of country and western numbers. There's nothing on Leave Your Love at the Door that you or your parents haven't heard before, but Blek and co. have a way with melody and mould such familiar elements to their advantage. Where there's a heart broken, there's a foot stomping, with a band of guitars, lap steels and drums to accompany Blek's plaintive croon on these 12 tracks, so enjoy. It [...]

Jay-Z and Kanye West's collaborative album was one of 20112s most praised albums. John compares it to chocolate peanut butter. We like him anyway. The praise towards Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch the...

In a recent interview with Huffpost Live , Kanye and Jay-Z producer, Mike Dean shared some details about Yeezus and Wa tch The Throne 2 . Dean revealed that Kanye has been working on Yeezus for about the past six months and was actually still working on it as of today, but is still slated for a June 18th release. Also in the video, Dean said that the new album is "not an extension of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy . It's a new work of art." As far as the [...]
Transformed from the so-called "Louis Vuitton don" to the purported "abomination of Obama's nation" and back to being the kingpin of his very own G.O.O.D. Music label, there's never a dull moment in the erratic, if excessively well documented and tabloid-infecting life of a certain Kanye West . And over a night on which he nonchalantly rattles off the second of three sold out London shows in the space of a week in the crimson round of the Hammersmith Apollo, the same can certainly be said of his live portrayal. It is something of a portrayal after [...]

Another Monday and to commemorate the crushing mundanity the day embodies with a most despairing inherence, we're back here divulging a further ten tracks from our 2012 ranking. Our previous instalment took in a Fuck Button, the irrefutably inimitable Bobby Womack, and a lo-res JPG of a cat in a box . This one, meanwhile, clicks through a smattering of woebegone London lo-fi, a couple snared from the Captured Tracks roster, the inevitable Hot Chip entry, and something ever so slightly special from Sam Willis who was once, all in all, just another [...]
Jazz has continued to creep up in popularity over recent months, as exciting musicians both young and old embrace newer movements to bring a refreshing vibe to the genre. I'm talking everyone from Robert Glasper to Flying Lotus . Trumpeter Christian Scott and his Quintet were performing in St. Louis not long ago when they pulled out a vivacious rendition of The Throne's "No Church In The Wild". That is right, the 88-Keys produced and Frank Ocean featured single from Kanye West and Jay-Z's hyped collaborative album Watch The Throne . The melodies are distant but [...]

Love ( My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy ) or loathe ( 808s & Heartbreak ), G.O.O.D. Music head honcho Kanye West is, absolutely indubitably, the mercurial hip hop mastermind he unendingly proclaims himself to be. Blazoned as such across the entirety of this here universe, he's The One; the Champion; the Runaway; the Monster: all of the above, and all at once. And in being this polymathic jack of all trades and master of but one, he debatably has less of a clue as to who he really is than we do. Here, in [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , Music Appreciation Frazer Harrison, Getty It might not be blatantly obvious, but Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine draws quite a bit of influence from hip-hop. Her ethereal pop-anthems are a far cry from the heavy beats and rhymes of rappers, but Welch assures us that the similarities are there. "What really inspires me about hip-hop is the idea that you don't really [...]

Hit-Boy's long anticipated debut lyrical mixtape was released a few days ago. The G.O.O.D Music artist doesn't disappoint. For those of you who didn't know, Hit-Boy is the producer behind the massive hit Niggas in Paris amongst others. Taking a play out of Kanye's book, a rapper who similarly rose to fame producing beats for Hip Hops top artists, Hit-Boy is ready to step into the ring, better yet, the booth. The mixtape features guest appearances by John Legend, Big Sean and Kid Cudi amongst others. "She probably only here cus Niggas in Paris" [...]
One year ago today, Kanye West and Jay-Z released Watch The Throne to the masses. To celebrate the anniversary, they've just put out a brief, but awesome documentary that dives into their recording process and state of mind as they were creating the album. For whatever reason, behind the scenes footage continues to own me - especially for something like this. Watch The Throne Documentary from Forgotten Sundays on Vimeo. Tweet

"Cheers, cheers, Watch The Throne ." Today is the one-year anniversary of the release of Watch The Throne , the landmark album from Jay-Z and Kanye West. The two spent time in Australia, England, and a hotel rooms around the world recording the LP and today we get an intimate look at that process through this short documentary. The 10-mintue clip actually leaked about a year ago as well, and was on the web for all of about 60 minutes before being taken down. If this is indeed the proper and official release, it's pretty fresh. [...]

This documentary about the making of Jay-Z and Kanye West 's Watch The Throne surfaced a while back and then disappeared. Now it's back, in full. Watch it below, and head over to Paradigm Magazine to read an interview with the director, Robert Lopuski. An excerpt: "I knew they didn’t want to do traditional interviews, so I’d turn on the audio recorder on my cell phone, and at the dinner table, put it on my knee and be like, so Jay… and then record a quick interview that way. It's been a while since we got a new VOYR clip from Kanye West. It's one of the few BTS series that I think is actually really dope. Today we have a new clip, which follows The Throne to Madison Square Garden where Kanye finally finds comfort with the kilt and remembers his first performance at The Garden way back with Usher. Check it out.

As someone who is involved both in the music blog-o-sphere and the LGBTQ community, I got about 10 texts, Facebook messages, calls etc. the morning Frank Ocean became one of the first openly queer individuals in the rap/R&B game. While this was very exciting information, in some ways it overshadowed the release of his first studio album Channel ORANGE, which technically drops today (though it had an iTunes “exclusive” release a week earlier). In the massive amount of press about which songs include references to his sexuality, the surprising support of fellow industry up-and-comers such as Tyler the Creator, [...]

Can't say we give two T's re: Pusha T although the prospect of a compilation LP from Kanye West's GOOD Music label by the name of Cruel Summer which is slated to feature copious contributions from our beloved Yeezy makes it a must-impatiently-await. Fresh from bringing the heftyweight glitz of Watch The Throne to us not once but twice ( here & here ) it would appear the scatty schizo will be back behind the impenetrable glasses of the studio sooner rather than later. Here he is on New God [...]

Crowds of 50,000-plus; Hackney ubication; a Radio 1 affiliation: endless elements to this year's Big Weekend equivalent, the Hackney Weekend 2012 rendered the very prospect somewhat daunting. Factor in reports of Hackney Marsh gradually transmogrifying into just that – an almighty, almightily viscous bog – and the whole thing becomes ever less appealing. Saturday's Main Stage line up is a similarly groggy affair: like a treacherous overflowing of our fetid, sewer-like mainstream in which, par Example, Rizzle Kicks splurge out after Leona Lewis , the In New Music We Trust Stage would represent a safe haven of [...]

It can be very hard to separate the subjective from the objective when it comes to live experiences. Some gigs are great because you feel a connection to the artist playing or the songs performed. Some gigs are great because of atmosphere and occasion. An objective reading on Jay-Z and Kanye's Watch The Throne show in the The O2 in Dublin on Saturday night, would suggest that this show had it all. Subjectively, throughout the 40-strong song set, I felt that a live concert experience rarely gets better than this. [...]
