Waar Portico Quartet voorheen nog vooral een hippe, semi-experimentele nu-jazzband (inclusief een Mercury Prize-nominatie in 2009) was voor connaisseurs, bewijst het Londense collectief op zijn 30 januari uitgebrachte nieuwe album meer wegen in te kunnen slaan. De aanvulling op de traditionele Portico Quartet-elementen (jazzy drums, saxofoon en bas, plus gebruik van de exotisch klinkende hang) met swingende beats en Burial-eske synths maakt van de nieuwe langspeler een exquise gerecht voor oude én nieuwe fans. A music video for the song "Ruins," which comes off the new, self-titled Portico Quartet album. It's out now on Real World . Combining elements of both jazz and downtempo, this English band creates a sound that's both chill and engaging. From ambient interludes to full-on grooves, the Portico Quartet has a lot of dynamics going for them. A lot of perplexing sounds, too. Looking forward to hearing more of this new album of theirs.
