The Grammy nominations have been revealed

The Grammy nominations have been revealed Well there it is. The Grammy. The award that artists strive to win and the one that bloggers and fans hate. Primarily because, as fans, we feel that OUR favorite bands deserve all the accolades and fuck the rest. But this award ceremony offers us a place to vent our frustrations and reaffirm our hatred for genres and artists we can't stand. There's gonna be a lot of hate for one Justin Bieber again...even if he isn't nominated for anything. Regardless, it's my job to make sure all of you freaks know [...]

Check Out: Trombone Shorty – "Do To Me" (Star Slinger Remix) (CoS Premiere)

Check Out: Trombone Shorty – "Do To Me" (Star Slinger Remix) (CoS Premiere) When New Orleans jazz sensation Trombone Shorty went into the studio to record the the ultra-sexy single "Do To Me", the up-and-coming trombonist solidified the track with soaring guitar riffs courtesy of legendary U.K. guitarist Jeff Beck. Now, the track has drawn the skills of another U.K. talent, this time as a mid-tempo, electro remix delivered by Manchester's Star Slinger (aka Darren Williams). Star Slinger has readied the track for the dance floor by toning down the guitar riffs of his fellow Briton, and infusing Shorty's trombone runs with electro-synth "swooshes" and tech breaks. Stream the edit and compare it [...]

Jeff Beck - Remember (Walking in the Sand)

Jeff Beck- Imelda May Band Remember (Walking In The Sand) - Beacon Theatre
I stumbled across this clip today and had to share. It's from a Les Paul Tribute show held at the Beacon Theater in New York earlier this year, featuring rocker guitarist Jeff Beck and the Imelda May band doing the '60s classic Remember (Walking in the Sand) . Beck's riffage is totally out of this world. The man holds no pick. Or equal.

Just Try Not to Listen

The level of commerce that is associated with rock and roll is something that is best not thought about. It's sort of like the old line that you never want to go into the kitchen of a restaurant—regardless of whether it has three Michelin stars or it is a McDonald's—because you're likely not to have much of an appetite as a result of what you'll discover. So it is best that we enjoy the filet—or the Filet o' Fish—without much consideration beyond the object itself. It is best that we enjoy the work of our performers [...]

Only Living Boy - Hide Nothing

Only Living Boy - Hide Nothing Who the hell do these guys think they are? First they hit me with the damnedest Deep Purple sound with "Lonely Puppy Blues." Then, they make me wrap my mind around "Sunny Day Man" somewhere between Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin . My ears were not ready for the next onslaught, "Hide Nothing," the album namesake, a hard-edged electric blues power trio guitar hooked blast that approaches "When The Levee Breaks" deliciousness. Who the hell gives [...]

It's probably fair to still call Tyler Bryant a guitar prodigy. Even though he's currently 20 years old, the Honey Grove, Texas, native has been slinging since before he was the fresh-faced 15-... Sly & The Family Stone – I'm Back! Family & Friends

Sly & The Family Stone – I'm Back! Family & Friends You have to love the spirit of legendary psychedelic funk pioneer frontman Sly Stone as most recently celebrated in I'm Back! Family & Friends (Cleopatra). It's a jam session with musicians from far-flung ends of the genre spectrum who also claim status as fans of Sly and The Family Stone coming to together to funk. This soul cauldron bubbles up with guitarist Jeff Beck coming in on "I Want To Take You Higher." I always find it interesting to see the names of musical guests and contributors I'm familiar with somewhere I don't expect; I literally thought while listening, "Hey, I didn't know [...]

The Jeff Golub Band Featuring: Henry Butler - The Three Kings

The Jeff Golub Band Featuring: Henry Butler - The Three Kings Albert, B.B. and Freddie. The trinity forms the foundation of modern day guitar-based blues and rock. Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Johnny Winters, Joe Perry, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Johnny Lang, Joe Bonamassa, just to mention a few, all prayed at the three Kings' altar. They learned their riffs, sang their songs and added their own special flair to such classic blues numbers as "Let The Good Times Roll," "Born Under A Bad Sign." "Have You Ever Loved A Woman," "Everyday I Have The Blues," "I'm Torn Down" and "The Thrill Is Gone." Now it [...]
