At this point I'm proud to announce that there have been over half a million views of 2UIBestow since November 2008. In part three of a retrospective look at the life of the blog I look at the music which impressed me in 2010. I wrote in the review of 2010 that I personally had a great year but can't remember why it was great! Such is life that you move on. Northern Irish band Burning Codes released a great album of positive indie pop which I adored and I announced as my album [...]

While Halves' recorded output is atmospherically rich and grandiose in its instrumentation, live, the experience is more easily relatable. Which may have influenced the decision of the band to release a live album recorded in December at Dublin's Unitarian Church. 'Haunt Me When I'm Drowsy' is injected by the natural aura of the church setting on the live recording and is further bolstered by the addition by Jennifer Evans on vocals and members of 3Epkano on strings. Moreish and minimal. Here's a live video from the gig of 'Darling, You'll Meet Your Maker' by [...]

It's been far too long since my last 4 The Turnstiles post but I'm aiming to get back writing about folk music on a regular basis. In a new direction for an interview I asked Sligo born singer-songwriter Pearse McGloughlin if he'd be the Guinea pig for the first interview through the median of Google Chat. What you see below is the [almost] unedited thirty minute chat between Pearse and myself. Peter: [...]

Jennifer Evans likes to keep herself occupied. Not only has the Dublin-based singer recorded and released her debut EP in recent times, but she also landed a prestigious slot in the 'Other Room' section of RTÉ's Other Voices series. And that's all in addition to a rather full gig schedule, which included a date at Berlin's King Kong Club just last month. It's only right that she should reach a wider audience, because Evans possesses one of the most arresting voices you're likely to hear this year. Whether performing alone or with her band, The Ripe Intent, [...]

How was 2010 for you? If I'm being honest I'd say 2010 was personally a great year. Many good things happened this year. However I'm in the minority in Ireland and share many of the same worries that affect people in Ireland today. So feck your IMF, feck your Fianna Fail and feck your recession I got music in my life! Here's my musical highlights! Top 3 Live Performances [From an Irish Band] Even [...]

Much of 20102s music came in EP form, wide and varied there was way too much to build a cumulative list. Instead State has compiled and A to Z. While not in anyway definitive think of our choices as a foundation of must-haves - be sure to let us know what we left out. A Active Child - Curtis Lane EP She Was a Vision by Active Child [...]

This top 50 list contains the 50 tracks from 50 different artists and like all lists they represent the music which I adore at this very moment in time. 11: Sean [Dr.] Millar - Sports and Pussy Sean Millar is a literary genius as demonstrated again by his 'Of The People' parts one and two releases this year. I adore this little folky number which contains scathing [...]
