All photography by Marcos Dominguez González With the ever growing importance of live shows in today's music industry, it becomes imperative that artists do something that will make theirs a must see. On his first stop ever in Madrid, Jens Lekman seemed to understand this fully, giving us more than just a musical show. Backed by a full band consisting of a keys, a violin, a bassist and a drummer, along with a sampler and his customary guitar, the Swedish songwriter strove to make our night just [...]

Like many of you, I've been spending a lot of time today digging into Pitchfork's People's List and, while I think the 27,000+ voters got lots of stuff right, there was also plenty of albums I thought were criminally overlooked. So I turned those harbored resentments into a list (because that's just what bloggers do, right?). So, these are my picks of the albums from 1996-2011 that were robbed of their deserved People's List glory by the 88% male, urbanites that voted in this thing. I limited myself to one album per artist (otherwise you'd be getting a [...]

I missed out on my gig at the Super Happy Funland SXSW after party in Houston this week as my tour bus broke down in Austin, but Space City Rock blog did a really great write up for the gig. I hope people found out in time that I couldn't make it. I'm playing March 25th at Dun Bros Coffee in Katy, TX instead if you want to come and see my show. I’ll admit to being somewhat biased towards Swedish musicians, these days; [...]

Singer/songwriter Jens Lekman may, at first listen, seem like a strange Swede. His songs, like "I Broke Up a Fight" and "Waiting for Kirsten," a song about waiting to see Kirsten Dunst at her hotel in his hometown, seem, well, odd. Lekman's songs initially appear as silly musical stories about nothing. But then he brings out a line that just nails how it feels when go through one of the deep situations we all endure at some point while on this mortal coil, and your perception is immediately changed. Lekman covers them all, heartache/hope/love/longing, and in the end, [...]

He began the show by saying “Thank you for not forgetting about me” and if Jens Lekman ’s songs had somewhat slipped our mind at the start of this show, they were firmly re-ensconsed by the end. Before Lekman arrived onstage there was the odd quasi-performance art of The Blow , in the form of Mikhaela Maricich, who, it emerged, has been active for the best part of ten years without impinging on my consciousness even for a second and, maybe more surprisingly, without packing it in. She was awful – passable tinny solo electro-pop interspersed [...]
I saw Jens Lekman in Whelan's about two or three years back, when he was on tour promoting Night Falls Over Kortedela . It was a decent show, but nothing amazing. He was only accompanied by one band member, so hopefully this time he'll have a full backing band. He'll be returning to the Wexford Street venue on Sunday, August 1st. Tickets cost €17.50 and are on sale now. Watch Jens Lekman - 'A Little Lost' live in Whelan's:
