Spotify, A Blessing in Internet Music Streaming

Spotify, A Blessing in Internet Music Streaming I was reading on cnet news about a new music streaming source called Spotify . This full-service tool allows users to search and stream as their hearts desire instead of a typical music streaming service that works similar to radio broadcasts; once the song is over it’s gone until the next time around. Not only does Spotify let us listen to the same song over and over until we throw up (which I am shamelessly guilty of), but it can find playlists off of Last.fm and allow the users to share them. This is very cool. [...]

Damn Packing/Unpacking!

Damn Packing/Unpacking! That's my luggage pile as things have spilled onto the floor between my last two trips.  While I'd love to travel with 7 pairs of shoes, I know that a sensible traveler only packs 4 pairs per piece of luggage.   I'm racing to start my laundry to have clean clothes for Philly this weekend, but am heading out in an hour for some pizza in New Haven and the Ryan Adams show. Happy weekend everybody!!

That's a lot of Butter!

That's a lot of Butter! A certain relative of mine might have a tendency to buy things in bulk.  This created a fantastic game for Jody in college as we would play guess how many boxes of cereal, rolls of gift wrap, laundry detergent would be in the house at once.  Then when I was home from grad school, I opened the fridge to find this.  The photo has been passed around among my friends and I was reminded of it at William Eggleston's photography exhibit at The Whitney a few weeks ago.  He had some fun fridge photos, but none with as much butter [...]

It's Time for Another Road Trip!

It's Time for Another Road Trip! T he Shannon Hey there...it's after midnight and my bag is nowhere near being packed, but that's okay, because in 8 hours I'll be on a plane heading south for the week.  Sure, it's to Orlando, one of my least favorite cities (See PGA Show trip with Tommy), but it's horribly cold up north and I need to get out of here. While I'm still not sleeping, I'm at least mentally refreshed after a weekend with some of my favorite college friends in CT [...]

08 Retrospective...Part 4

08 Retrospective...Part 4 Hey blog, let’s keep this recap thing going, only one more day...which I should put up before the end of January. Latarian Steals a Car - Oh, my favorite little (really) underage hoodrat. I just hope that life gets a little better for you, then I won’t feel so guilty about how much I loved that news report about you. [...]

Drums, Guitar, Computer and a Mission

Drums, Guitar, Computer and a Mission Engaging a group is never an easy thing. I think that it’s a process of creating stuff that fuels your internal passion, showing that passion and building a community around that. In the case of musician Justin Vernon, he’s found himself engaging a group just by taking his troubles of a broken band and broken relationship to the backwoods of Wisconsin and recording his sorrows away. In 2006, Vernon posted his sad songs from his album, “For Emma, Forever Ago”, on MySpace, hoping for some feedback and maybe sell his story via a few [...]

The 08 Retrospective...Part 1

The 08 Retrospective...Part 1 Hey blog--maybe I’m back again, we’ll see.  We had a really good stretch and everything seemed right from the end of February until the end of July.  We shared lots of good music, some random things on the internets, and my friends loved how our little inside joke of another one of my websites got some very minor attention.  Then came my plate throwing phase in the early fall followed by my Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness.  (Billy Corgan, I loved you during your Zwan days, too.  Dommie can vouch for me. )   [...]

The Jody (and Lauren) hit the Spectrum for some Neil Young

The Jody (and Lauren) hit the Spectrum for some Neil Young The (Wachovia) Spectrum opened in the fall of 1967, originally to accommodate the Philadelphia NHL and NBA teams, the Flyers and the 76ers.  It seats roughly 18,000 people, depending on the event, as it now also is home to the Arena Football team, the Soul (Bon Jovi’s team); minor league hockey, the Phantom; indoor soccer, the Kicks; and indoor lacrosse, the Wings.  It also hosts the circus and numerous concerts throughout the year.  Being 40 years old, it’s a tiny, dark, cramped place. And that is why I love it. [...]

The Dodos - Jodi

Watch the full concert at baeblemusic.com A live cut of The Dodos new single "Jodi"

Hi-Def Dodos

Watch the full concert at baeblemusic.com From the horses mouth: "There was a bit of irony involved when we ventured to NYC's most carnivalistic of venues, Spiegelworld. The magnificent, wood and canvas tent that sits oh so awesomely on Pier 17 derives its name from a Dutch word meaning mirror tent; an appropriate reference as it's a [...]

I Thought It Would Be Impossible - Jody (and Lauren) Accomplish Double Concert Night!

I Thought It Would Be Impossible - Jody (and Lauren) Accomplish Double Concert Night! Is it just me or does the Railroad Earth lead singer remind you of Sean Penn? A few months ago, I got an email from Railroad Earth with their upcoming tour dates. They were hitting the TLA in Philly on a Friday night, Sept 5. I was pumped, as these guys are my current favorite band. A few days later, my listener-supported radio station, XPN, was listing their upcoming shows – My Morning Jacket, who I have been dying [...]

Oh, just like the band 'Swan Lake"?

Oh, just like the band 'Swan Lake"? After a long journey across Paris, I decided to prolong the "Spending quality time with myself" and head to an Indie club/bar/concert, also known as Divan Du Monde. I never really thought about it, but when you head to a place you've never been to, there's always an awkward entrance...The, where the fuck should I stand/go awkward entrance. Unfortunately, I didn't pull off the "I'm a reporter, just reporting look" as I planned during the metro ride. Instead, I stood by the door for about 15mins, and looked around as if I was waiting for Brian to come back with [...]

The Boss Returns to Jersey - Giants Stadium 7.27.8

The Boss Returns to Jersey - Giants Stadium 7.27.8 Lauren is one happy tailgate r We have been excited for this show since the four of us bought tickets way back in January.  The only bad thing is Giants Stadium continued to release floor seats in the weeks prior, while we remained stuck three rows from the top in seats we bought almost eight months in advance.  The excitement started building at that other Jersey guy's concert Perry and I went to a few weeks back and was palpable in the week leading up to the show. I'm Missing She & Him and MGMT in New York this weekend

She & Him - Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?
My ND friends and I made plans to go see a certain corporate sounding man from New Jersey this weekend way back in January, so while I was excited to see the MGMT were playing the Pool Parties, I was definitely bummed to find out it was the same day as the Boss's show at Giants Stadium. And today I'm bartending a big hot shoe tourney at some oil tycoon's place in Connecticut, so no She & Him, but my roomie is heading to it. She & Him has been sold out, I believe, but they're at [...]

Guest Spot: Kelly sees Van the Man in Chicago...without any booze, cigarettes, cell phones or cameras

Van “the Man” Morrison  July 8, 2008  Rosemont Theatre Rosemont, IL   After being publicly chastised for my laziness, I decided writing my review was more important than my paying job.  I might get an iPhone in 8 years.  What is my real job giving me?  Exactly. Last Tuesday Dommie and I made the trek to the ‘burbs to see Van Morrison.  We’ve watched his Austin City Limits on PBS a few times recently so when we found out about the show [...]

Guest Spot: Jody Hits the XPoNential Music Festival

Guest Spot: Jody Hits the XPoNential Music Festival Once again Jody joins the blog to give us a music update from Philly.  Jody is our singer-songwriter/folk music expert, too.  She actually writes her guest spots, unlike Kelly, Nick and Emily.  Someday, right guys? Guest Spot:  Jody I live in Philly, yet commute to Delaware every day for school.  As a student, I am way too cheap for either an iTrip or satellite radio, so I rely heavily on [...]

XPoNential Music Festival Kicks Off in Philly Tonight

Bruce Springsteen with Alejandro Escovedo - ALWAYS A FRIEND
The XPN 4 day festival kicks off tonight at the Camden Waterfront (close enough to Philly in my opinion) with the Blind Boys of Alabama.  We're sending Jody on yet another concert mission and she'll be checking in from the shows on Saturday.   The girl is also an XPN member, so she has access to the artist meet and greets and is on a mission to meet Michael Frant i on Saturday.  Should this not happen she'll probably claim that her loaner camera had some catastrophe, which is highly [...]
