[Photos by Michael Piantigini] It's been a little over a year since the Pernice Brothers released their latest album Goodbye, Killer (my review here ), but now's as good a time as any for a second leg of "touring" for it (the short run continues tonight with a show in Virginia and winds up in New York on Saturday). It actually seemed more like a stretching of the legs for Pernice, who explained that he was working to finish the next Pernice Brothers album, which he says [...]

Leslie Sisson It was a sad day in late 2005 when Austin's American Analog Set called it a day, or it would have been if they had bothered to officially do so. They announced prior to touring their last (as in most recent, not final) record Set Free that it would be their final tour before a hiatus, and that while they didn't have any plans to do anything else together, be it recording or playing or whatever, they weren't ruling out the possibility. And they invoked the [...]

Taking a page from such classic chump change music videos as Wild Thing and Bastards Of The Young , Pernice Brothers reportedly got the cinematic representation of the lead single of Goodbye Killer from script to screen for a mere $30. That's right would-be music video auteurs, you too can make a clip for your favorite indy musician for less than it takes to buy a round of drinks at the douchebag bar of your choosing. And I think you'll agree, you can see every [...]
The Pernice Brothers are back with a new album, "Goodbye, Killer", which showcases their knack for expertly catchy, country-tinged songwriting. The new single "Jacqueline Susann" is available on their website – it's a blast of scruffy garage-rock overlaid with smart, cynical lyrics. "Bechamel", the other track from the album, is far more laid back, offering vocal harmonies and acoustic guitar work that recall every perfect summer pop song from The Beach Boys onwards. These two tracks are a nice sample of the album, and they've definitely convinced me that the Pernice Brothers' latest release deserves a [...]
No one does heartbreak like Joe Pernice... Pernice Brothers - Serial killer - Television - Reviews - MP3

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive , Book Club Not only is Joe Pernice a recording artist and published novelist , he's become something of a (minor) celebrity on Twitter, thanks to his manager, Joyce Linehan. Since joining Twitter in 2008 under the handle @ashmont, Linehan has chronicled her funny and sometimes absurd interactions with Pernice, now collected in 'Pernice to Me,' a slim 82-page volume they have published as co-authors to coincide with the release of the Pernice Brothers ' [...]

If you're keeping score at home, I still haven't caught up enough to have read last year's Joe Pernice novel, It Feels So Good When I Stop , but I have already read his most recent book, which he reluctantly (unwillingly, perhaps) co-wrote with his manager, Joyce Linehan . Pernice To Me is, as Pernice describes it, a "libelous" chronicle (via a compilation of Linehan's @Ashmont Twitter updates) of the period of time between the release of the novel and its corresponding soundtrack and the making of the Pernice [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive , Book Club Having taken a break from music to write his debut novel, 'It Feels So Good When I Stop,' Joe Pernice found he was refreshed when he returned to working on songs for the latest Pernice Brothers record, 'Goodbye, Killer.' "I enjoyed the solitary nature of the book, but a year or nine months of solitary is just about enough for me," Pernice tells Spinner. "And I like recording -- I really [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive For Joe Pernice , it's not like the old days, when he could simply hole up in a studio and record a whole album. Making the latest Pernice Brothers release, 'Goodbye, Killer,' required a certain mastery of logistics, Pernice tells Spinner. "I live in Canada, my wife works full-time and we have a kid, so I can't just pick up and go," Pernice says. "It takes a lot of time to arrange our schedules."

Filed under: News , Exclusive , Book Club While not every musician can dabble into long-form fiction, Nick Cave and Joe Pernice -- who both released novels last year -- certainly proved it can be done. Now, Brooklyn, N.Y.-based folk singer Josh Ritter is getting into the book game too, with his first novel, 'Bright's Passage,' due in Summer 2011. Currently, Ritter's on tour supporting his latest release, 'So Runs The World Away,' and he says that 'Bright's Passage' was first [...]

Goodbye, Killer by Pernice Brothers is Joe Pernice's first band album since 2006's Live a Little. We've got a track from it just for you.

Uusi Pernice Brothers -albumi Goodbye, Killer ilmestyy 15. kesäkuuta. Edellisestä bändilevystä (Live A Little @ Spotify ) on ehtinyt vierähtää nelisen vuotta. Sillä välin Joe Pernice ehti kirjoittaa kiitellyn esikoisteoksensa It Feels So Good When I Stop, Goodbye , jonka kylkiäisenä julkaistiin myös saman niminen soundtrack. Konstailematon ja napakka näytekappale tuo mukavasti mieleen Guided By Voicesin: Pernice Brothers: Jacqueline Susann (mp3)

Perhaps there is a subset of rock 'n' roll fans who either like being told what to do or recognize that they benefit from such firm direction. If this sounds like you, listen up: the editorial team at Clicky Clicky has quietly conferred and has set the agenda for the coming weekend in Boston, a weekend as chock-a-block with high-grade indie rock as we have seen for some time. Our approved itinerary goes like this: you will see Joe Pernice at Lizard Lounge Thursday at 8PM _sharp_ (this is an early show and we've read that tickets are [...]
Glen Wilkins While most peoples' "most anticipated albums of 20103 lists read something like "Arcade Fire Interpol Strokes Fleet Foxes etc", damn near the top of my list you'll find A Coming Of Age , the sophomore effort from London's Lucky Soul . Their 2007 debut The Great Unwanted , an irresistible piece of Motown/Northern soul-channeling pop glory, remains one of my favourite records of the past decade, so the follow-up has some mighty big shoes to fill but judging from the first couple of tastes, it'll manage that just fine. [...]

Every year I say that I'm going to tone down the amount of shows that I go to, and every year I end up seeing more than the year before. This year's final tally sits at 143 different artists to have graced the live stage in my presence, including three more than I still haven't gotten around to reviewing but I will. Eventually. Of course, I have friends that have probably seen that amount in a weekend but for an old married guy, I'd say that's still a pretty obscene number. Overall though, this year has been a [...]

Frank Yang The Bellwoods crew is certainly setting a high standard when it comes to set dressings. Thanks to them, I've now attended shows in the heart of a volcano , an exploding library in the sky and as of this past Friday night, a heavily wooded lumberjack camp. In reality, it was the Tranzac and the occasion was the record release party for Evening Hymns' new album Spirit Guides ; a grand and gauzey statement of gospel-inflected folk-rock which is quite highly-regarded [...]
