Don't know how I missed this when it dropped 3 months ago... but it found us in the end! We'll worth your time... "RA tells the remarkable story of the South African city's thriving house scene. South Africans are the biggest consumers of house music in the world, and Johannesburg is the beating heart of their scene. If you're looking for proof, there is no need to visit a nightclub. In turning on a television, listening to the radio or walking down the street, it's clear that a 4/4 pulse is the metronome of everyday life. The city's [...]

Here's a download of a dope TNGHT track that's been messed with by Mr. Apple Sawc, aka Wandile. Mr. Apple Sawc is a Joburg DJ doing some great stuff with local and international tracks. We'll be watching out for this dude and his future projects, but in the meantime: Listen/ Download the track below.
Energetic Hip hop beats are the least to say about this dynamic, fiery DJ. There are just too many heavy drops to stay afloat. Trying to take in all of the instrumental sounds and hip hop beats richoetecing from his... READ MORE

Sunday. The day of the week when you have just time for yourselves. Hang around, chilling on the couch, watch TV, a little bit of checking what's going on in the internet. So it is probably a good day to have an eye on this documentary here. It is about the current house music scene in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is fascinating to see how the music brings the people together there and to see how huge house music is over there. This documentary is worth watching it. And if you don't have the time for watching it, [...]

You may have heard of YOLANDA BE COOL from a fairly well known track of theirs scattered with cheeky trumpets, Latino verses and general dance-floor swashing. The pair have just issued a product recall claiming that “the beats are no longer fresh” and that the song has taken over their entire image – just in time for the release of their album Ladies and Mentalmen . We got speaking to one half of the Sydney-based dance duo, Johnson “Durango Slim” Peterson , on the creation of the [...]

Delhi fusion band Advaita are set to play in Johannesburg, South Africa, over this weekend. Their music is a melange of traditional rock with Indian classical overtones.
Geo·dissonance: the metal movement is proliferating to all corners of the globe. In its relentless display of vitriolic truths and the ugliest questions of existence, we can hear the resounding riffs of heavy metal in the most conservative pockets of society. As your Punjabi, riff-worshiping correspondent, I've created Geodissonance to report the controversy: as metal ...

Here's a cool dub track from Brenda Fassie, a famous South African singer. I found it at Jerry's earlier this year while I was at the listening station. So, big shout outs to Johannesburg & Pittsburgh! Brenda Fassie - Black President (Freedom Dub) Mediafire • YSI • 1995

It has been a while since we have had anything from The Watermark High up on Electrotrash . In the time that has past the band has simply become the alias of Johannesburg based experimental electronic musician, Paul van der Walt. Paul has crafted a 5-track EP entitled "Slow Motion Clarity" and released it using Bandcamp 's "Name-Your-Price" option, which allows you to buy the album for as much (or as little) as you like! I really recommend grabbing this one, it is a smooth, uplifting experience that makes my days stuck [...]

Released as a super limited 7", Fixers are a unique, thrilling psychedelic five-piece in love with Japanese pop, middle eastern music and the dance grooves of late 70s new york. new single 'Swimmhaus Johannesburg' shines a light on these influences. Swimmhaus Johannesburg: With classic piano house lines, startling guitar bursts, echo-drenched vocals and a thrilling 4/4 beat. It's pop music in its most bold and forward-thinking sense. Mixed by Alan Moulder, it's destined to cement Fixers as the most exciting new band in the UK. Such is their array of influences, Fixers sound never stands still, [...]
While cars burned to hollow cinders and shops were looted for iPhones and trainers, The Line of Best Fit was holed up in a North London studio with Oxford psych-poppers (and massive kaftan fans) Fixers for a very special session. Behold, in all its lumious, incense-soaked glory, an exclusive studio performance of acid-tinged pop gem 'Swimmhaus Johannesburg'. And if this whets your apetite then get on down to London's Shacklewell Arm tomorrow night (Tuesday 16 August) for an intimate show by the five piece. Kaftans are optional.

"You're running so fast" I heard this on the radio for the first time over the weekend and was instantly hooked. Researching the band further, it seems that this is a bit of a departure for them, aimed more at the dancefloor than their past work. They've yet to release a full album, and I'm hoping that when they do, it'll veer towards this sound. Swimmhaus Johannesburg might not be the most obvious pop song title, but once you hear this, you'll be unable to pry it from your head. the melody's completely strong [...]

Here is your latest fix of Fixers . The Oxford five piece’s single Swimmhaus Johannesburg first streamed on Breaking More Waves back in July and today they’ve released the video for the song. What’s particularly ingratiating about Fixers is that the band seem to be characterised by a slightly maverick and eccentric approach to creating pop music, yet it’s always accessible and appealing. As chronicled previously Swimmhaus Johannesburg swings wildly away from the bands earlier US psychedelic pop influences and goes full pelt into early 90’s Brit indie-dance territory although still with a hint of [...]
