Frank Yang So here we are, with both post- Oasis projects with their debuts officially out in the wild - the Liam-led Beady Eye having released Different Gear, Still Speeding back in March and Noel Gallagher's Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds out this week. Given the not-so-greatness of Liam's Oasis output, the bar for the former was set fairly low and Different Gear 's meat-and-potatoes Brit-rock had no problem clearing it, with "not bad" counting as a big win. [...]
Johnny Flynn - The Wrote And The Writ by The Green Bird Heard They're taking pictures of the man from God I hope his cassock's clean The burden of being our holy fellas Your halo'd better gleam, better gleam What of all those wayward priests? The ones who like to drink Do you suppose they'd [...]

Major Chord - Gather All This Love Melbourne Australia's Major Chord (Dan Flynn) new video for "Gather All This Love' from his new album 'Psychic Civil War' is a beautiful folk song mixed in with a gorgeous choreographed dance which really needs to be seen to be appreciated. The director, his brother, Johnny Flynn, did an amazing job of using light to really accetuate this tune's brilliance. The album is available now from JB hi-fi, Sanity, iTunes and local record stores [...]

The end of summer is fast approaching, which means an end to the mud, cider and frolics of the festival season, the icing on the cake being Rob Da Bank's Bestival. But with the autumnal times there comes change, that change being me! As the new addition at HMCMB, I'll be joining the team to help keep you all on the 'cultural' ball. So...Hi..I'm Ruby, and armed with an Oxfam Steward pass and as much camping equipment as humanly possible to carry, I was ready for what the Isle of Wight had to throw at me. The first [...]

I have never been to Lexington. I've crawled through a cave in Kentucky where bats hung inches above my head. We stole some polished stones from a gift shop there on a school field trip. But, I never made it to Lexington, Kentucky. Years ago, over lobster enchiladas and cucumber mojitos I accidentally told someone that I was in love with him. He made me angry. My arms raised up on either side and in exasperation, I said, "I am in luh-" and his eyes got really wide, and I said quietly, "rescue me." He stared at me [...]
Charlotte 'anti-folk' band Matrimony perform an affecting piano cover of Johnny Flynn's 'The Wrote and the Writ' in a bakery.

Friday 5th August 2011 saw Underage Festival take place at Victoria Park, and thanks to Younghearts (who you should check out on facebook HERE ) we were able to be there and experience an again exceptional line up, something Underage manages to pull out every year despite it's relatively small billing. The day opened up with Rizzle Kicks on the main stage, who we've perhaps a touch of bias for having followed them since their brilliant debut tape in 2009 and with them being a local Brighton act, who we've covered before HERE . Unfortunately we [...]

The community spirit of Truck Festival is a force to be reckoned with. Rolling up in Steventon, a small village just south of Oxford, the surroundings were stunningly perfect. Large fields of wheat swayed in harmony with the gentle breeze, it's hard to think of a more picturesque setting. But Truck has always been different to other festivals. From the friendly stewards greeting us to the chilled out vibe and the numerous children running around in brightly coloured ear protectors, it stands out. Read more..

![[Listen] – New Song By Laura Marling – "Sophia"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3597483_lg.jpg)
Tweet The last few years have been good to the British Alternative-Indie-Folk scene, seeing a huge resurgence in said music thanks to the likes of Mumford & Sons , Noah And The Whale , Johnny Flynn, and of course Laura Marling . If you're unfamiliar with Marling's work then a little background story might go like this. She's a female, she sings and plays the guitar and all that good jazz, she was in the original lineup of Noah & The Whale and [...]

Tomorrow sees the start of the marvellous Truck Festival near Oxford. We went last year and had a brilliant time and are thoroughly looking forward to this year's event where the line-up includes Gruff Rhys, Graham Coxon, Saint Etienne, John Grant, The Young Knives, Edwyn Collins, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, The Duke & The King, Tunng, Justin Townes Earle, Alessi's Ark, Sea Of Bees, Pete & The Pirates, Caitlin Rose, Lanterns On The Lake, Cashier No. 9 and (as the cliché goes) many, many more. There will also be another Truck America this year in [...]
So beautiful... The Water - Johnny Flynn Featuring Laura Marling

The summer is here, and that means that the men are hot, hot hot. Two years ago, we had our list of hot women , and the temperature is now ripe for the opposite sex. Here are our list of the 88 Hottest Men in Indie Rock (we love you Jack White!). Sufjan Stevens Click here to view the embedded video. [...]
Following the widespread success of 'First Love', Emmy The Great has finally returned after a long, long two year wait with a poignant, cathartic record that follows the further development of a hugely important artist. Written in the aftermath of the widely circulated breakdown of her engagement -as her atheist partner left for a life of religious conversion- Emma-Lee Moss chronicles personal tragedy through allegory and euphemism, as the sombre and contemplative record retains a scarcely voiced optimism throughout, with the richly produced acoustics embellishing the album with the necessary sense of interiority and sobriety. Whilst 'First [...]

To the casual observer and at the risk of massive over generalisation, unless you're the sort who got into 'indie' a few years back and sticks to the idea that skinny jeans, Top Man check shirts and slightly over styled spiked hair are the best look ever, the chances are that you'll have not even considered the idea of grabbing yourself a ticket for Get Loaded in the Park 2011, on 12th June. With the likes of Razorlight, The Cribs, and The Rifles all featuring prominently on the bill it's a wonder that The Kooks and The Enemy aren't playing [...]

Frank Yang So yes, I am currently abroad - huzzah - but this little dispatch isn't meant to rub it in to those who are still back in Toronto (or wherever you might be that is not Barcelona). Instead, it's to gently remind you that there's still plenty of stuff of the live music variety to see right there in Hogtown this week; more than is typical, I'd go so far as to say. So here's a quick run-down of stuff that, were I not elsewhere, I'd either be at or consider being at, starting [...]
