As you are probably aware by now the massive record collection of legendary radio presenter John Peel is being published online by the Arts Council, one section at a time. Today sees the addition of records beginning with the letter 'B', and like last weeks instalment, the collection is extensive, featuring everything from B52’s to Bach. The record collection of legendary BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel, and the career that surrounded it, has become the subject of a major new archive. At the time of his death, John's record collection consisted of 25,000 LPs, 40,000 singles and thousands of CDs. Each week, for 26 weeks, the first 100 records of each letter of the alphabet will be added to the archive, which will include information about John's favourite tracks, multimedia clips about particular artists and recordings, and details of how to find the music online. Starting on Tuesday, the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts will begin uploading details of the late DJ's cherished vinyl, unveiling 2,600 albums over the next six months. Every week, the Centre will expand the scope of its virtual museum, adding another 100 records, covering everything from Appalachian mountain music to zouk.
