As a native Los Angeleno, I have a strong affection for any song that mythologizes my hometown. Yacht's "Shangri-La" does just that. Heck, even the logo for the song does a unique take on my beloved Dodger's LA. The Portland transplants clearly have developed a deep affection for their new surroundings. YACHT - Psychic City This could well be one of the funnest songs of the summer. Its origins can be traced back to a 1987 cassette of field recordings and anti-songs called Two Millions Years , by Rich Jensen. It has now been repackaged as a "a subversive damaged zombie pop banger" by YACHT's Claire Evans and Jona Bechtolt, who have carefully catalogued every element of the song's inspiration (with links to the original tape) ahead of the release of See Mystery Lights on 28 July.
