If you're not already firmly planted on the E+ bandwagon, it is time to reconsider that decision. Every time I listen a track by the spacey, psych-pop outfit - which features members of Disappears, Heavy Times and Verma - the quality gets better and better. E+ and Giant System lighting designer Aleks Tomaszewska's (Magic Key, Aleks + The Drummer) efforts merged during this performance of "Substance D" to create a powerful atmosphere where the music conjures faraway forces as pure white light and dark shadows dance around the band members for equally [...]

It makes complete sense that at their New Years Eve show at the Empty Bottle this past January that Disappears played a set that featured new songs and a number of covers from bands such as Joy Division, New Order, David Bowie, Suicide and The Stooges. Their latest release, "Pre Language," finds the band at their strongest in terms of songwriting. Each track is distinct in mood and feel - much like the aforementioned bands - and finds the Chicago noir-rockers putting more stock into their tones, textures and nuances, which results in [...]

We've been anxiously awaiting music from E+ , a new project featuring members of Disappears , Heavy Times and Verma , and finally today our anxiety has been quenched. Last week the band announced on their Facebook that they've completed work on a new EP, which was recorded by The Ponys / Bare Mutauts / Football member Jered Gummere. And today, the band unleashed the first song from those recording sessions, "Too Many Voices." "Too Many Vices" is a well crafted exercise [...]

Chicago band Disappears released their second album 'Guider' earlier this year on Kranky records featuring the rocking track 'Halo'. Kranky describes the record as "a heads down, blinders on, damn the distractions, forward driving, controlled squall. Drop the needle, turn up the volume and surrender to the delicious." For lovers of post punk, krautrock or blistering rock in general its worth a listen if it flew under your radar! A few interesting facts on Disappears , the vast majority of 'Guider' was recorded live in one take. In doing so, Disappears [...]

Though Disappears just released the rumbling, guitar-powered Guider this past January, they wasted no time heading back into the studio with new drummer Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth fame. A few sessions at a recording studio in Hoboken later, the moody Chicago garage rockers birthed Live At Echo Canyon , which, despite its name, is no live album. But it is a five-song cassette that acts as a fine counterpoint to Guider as it’s a darker, more rhythmic affair. [...]

Photo by Drew Reynolds Even though a city-crippling blizzard hit two days prior, Chicago music fans weren't phased enough by the mountains of snow to keep them from packing the Empty Bottle last Friday for local psych-garage rockers Disappears. The band obviously fed off the impressive show of fan dedication and kicked off a raucous, mesmerizing set with the fiery groove of "Supersition," the opening track of their latest release, Guider . Lead singer and guitarist Brian Case repeatedly bounced from stage to amplifier, Jonathan van Herik contorted his [...]

Chicago psych-punks Disappears return with a powerful punch to the senses on their jam-heavy second album Guider . Even though the album clocks in at a mere 30 minutes, Disappears’ rattling drones exist outside of time, extending past the salt in the hourglass. Guider's first four tracks weave into the other preceding it, elongating into one link to stand against album closer “Revisiting,” which holds out at an impressive 15 minutes. While Disappears’ debut Lux bordered on the slightly [...]
