The start of another football season means it is time to reconnect with my city of choice, Philadelphia. Today, around the time the Eagles take the field against the Browns with a bulletproofed Michael Vick , I will be enjoying a slightly modified version of my Philly Cheesesteaks . You may not be familiar with the name Jon Samuel , but if you are a fan of Canadian independent music, you're likely familiar with the band he plays in: Wintersleep . The multi-instrumentalist Samuel releases his solo debut, First Transmission , on August 28th. You may, if you've been paying attention, noted a proliferation of electro pop leaning music being featured on these pages lately. I noted the trend when I posted about Kashka last week, that it's just been the musical mood I've been in lately, a penchant for something summery, poppy, and mostly fun. Just when you feel like all musical acts and bands seem hopeless, underrated bands like Wintersleep come along and reevaluate your previous assumption. Canadian indie rock band, Wintersleep, formed in 2001, where music wasand still ispredominately teen pop, dance pop and bubblegum pop. The fact that this band as well as other rock and indie rock bands can survive in this bubbly musical era is a feat on its own. My final stop at CMW 2012 on Saturday night. I was lucky to get into the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern since it was already packed with alot of great bands playing.
