“Heart of the Country” – Paul Mccartney (1971)

Macca's second solo album, Ram was panned left and right upon it's release, but time has done nothing but add to the albums charm. Recorded at Paul's home studio, this track like many others on the album has a certain ramshackle sincerity that furthers the albums appeal. “Sunburn” – Muse (1999)

Is that Thom Yorke? No it's the opening track of the debut album from the Radiohead doppelgangers known as Muse. You have to remember though when this record came out Radiohead had abandoned the guitar-driven rock songs in favor of making robot music. “Rolling Stone” – Muddy Waters (1948)

The song that started it all. An unaccompanied Muddy Waters plugs in, plays the blues, and the rest is history. This one song was the namesake for the biggest rock band in the world, a little rock magazine you may have heard of, and one of the greatest songs ever written. All in a day's work. “Balancing Act” – Knapsack (1995)

While the sound quality is rough, the distortion is a little sloppy and the band has long since broken up, this song runs the gamut of emotions when someone is the best and worst thing to happen to you. The post "Balancing Act" - Knapsack (1995) appeared first on Merchants of Rock .

“What I’m Looking For” – Brendan Benson (2005)

Brendan Benson has a knack for writing hooky classic pop songs, and ladies and gentleman, it doesn't get much more catchy than this. This little ditty lived in relative obscurity for a few years pre-Raconteurs, but once it hit an Itunes commercial this one had us all tapping our feet.  While this song was the breakout, the album "The Alternative to Love" is full of winners just like it. “Presence of the Lord” – Blind Faith (1969)

Clapton's lone songwriting credit for Blind Faith actually came from the Derek and the Dominoes sessions. Eric handles the guitar and leaves the vocals to Steve Winwood. Rounding out this original "super-group" Ginger Baker on drums and Traffic bassist Rick Grech.

“Peace Signs” – Sharon Van Etten (2010)

From Sharon Van Etten's 2010 album Epic, "Peace Signs" is chick rock at it's best.  Dark and moody yet sweet and subtle the song drives along with the chug of an electric guitar and the pounding of an unavoidable bass drum.  A 'sign' of good things to come this well crafted tune is reflected in Van Etten's newest album Tramp, which employs these tricks to their fullest ability. “God Is Love” – Marvin Gaye (1971)

"He made this world for us to live in and gave us everything. And all He asks of us, is we give each other love." An absolutely beautiful song with a beautiful message off of one of the greatest albums of all time. "God Is Love" is just one of many breathtaking tracks off Marvin Gaye's masterpiece soul album What's Going On that explores politics, life, love, and religion. A Singing Barber in the Battle of the Juke Boxes

"It started in a barber shop in Warren, Ohio..."  Today we meet the methodical man who spurned cooked-up publicity feuds and gimmicks and made a sensation with o nly his pipes and his handsome five-foot nine-inch, 160-pound cleft-chinned self.  You'll guess soon enough who beat Crosby, Sinatra , and even Dick Haymes in the Billboard polls during the month of this issue of Picture News , issue #2, from February 1946 (artist and writer unknown). We'll also learn about the wacky DJ from [...]

“Backstreets” – Bruce Springsteen (1975)

The first time I heard Backstreets, I was thoroughly convinced it was the greatest thing I have ever heard. What starts as a doo-op veined pop tune turns into something else altogether. From the moment everything drops out but the piano to Bruce's screaming crescendo at the end this one is something special. A high point off of an incredible album, this is one hell of a way to close out side one.

The Infinite Jukebox: Haz interminable tu canción preferida
