A video of this performance has been going around on the blogs, but it's cut off at under two minutes. Here's the full performance by Lauryn Hill and Bob's son Julian Marley doing "Lights Down Low" at RaggaMuffin 2010 in Australia. Looks like Julian inherited some of his father's dance moves. Pigeons and Planes
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Julian Marley' s long dreadlocks shook back and forth as he moved to the beat and said, "Music is the only way we can truly communicate. Speaking for myself ... music is the spirit that drives us." He smiled knowingly and reached his right hand out as if to touch the audience at Brooklyn Bowl's CMJ show on Wednesday. Then, the Uprising Band kicked into heavy bass and reggae beat mode and 'Boom Draw' from the new album 'Awake' drew everyone into the [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News At Wednesday night's CMJ show at New York's Brooklyn Bowl, 16-year-old Jamaican musical prodigy Javaughn prowled the stage like a big cat unleashed from a cage as he gripped the microphone and shouted, "This is a song about having a good attitude!" He then glided into 'Peer Pressure' with the ease of a veteran twice his years. Backed by Julian Marley 's Uprising Band, Javaughn appears determined to continue the legacy of strong musicianship, steady reggae beats and powerful message laden lyrics [...]
With the 2009 edition of the CMJ Music Marathon set to kick off two weeks from today, organizers behind the New York's largest music event have put the finishing touches on this year's lineup. And not surprising, this year's lineup is very large (gajillion might be the appropriate number), diverse (over 25 countries and territories will be represented), and musically eclectic (see next paragraph). This year's scheduled highlights include indie heroes Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, rapper Busta Rhymes, TV on the Radio's Kyp Malone and his Rain Machine solo project, The Lemonhead's Evan Dando, comedian [...]
I've often though of trying to do writeups & features on the music of both Bob & the Marley children, but it's a daunting task when you consider their productivity as well as the different phases of sound that all of them have traveled. Enig took the challenge by creating this nearly two hour mix of music from the Marley clan. Featuring the tunes of the Honorable Robert Nesta Marley, David "Ziggy" Marley, Stephen Marley, Julian Marley, Ky-Mani Marley, and Damian "Junior Gong" Marley, the dynasty is all here. The only name missing is maybe [...]

It has to be to tough to be a reggae musician and the son of Bob Marley . Imagine the expectations! How can anyone live up to that lineage? Maybe he should considered another profession, like rabbi or insurance underwriter. When I listened the first three or four times to Julian "JuJu" Marley 's new album, Awake , which is due on the racks Tuesday, I thought it sounded like the same old reggae beat with the same old reggae message. True enough, there's no escaping the basic elements of Marley's heritage, but repeated listening [...]

New Album coming from Julian Marley finally!! "Awake" "Incorporates the roots-reggae sound that Julian has made his own, infused with street-energy hip-hop, bubbling dancehall and a smooth combination of R&B and reggae." In stores and on itunes May 26 !!
Julian Marley - "Boom Draw" from MC Endeezy on Vimeo . Here's a new one from a Marley offspring, thanks to Brent. Bob Marley is one of my all time favorites. I don't care how cliche it is, his music really moves me, and it's cool to see his children following in his footsteps. I don't think it's possible to fill the void that he has left, but I think it would make him happy to see his kids making music. I'm trying to get an mp3 for this joint, but no luck yet. [...]
Stephen (see: "Blazed and Confused" tour ) and Damian (see: Nas collaboration ) are not the only members of the Marley clan with a busy summer ahead. On May 26, Julian Marley will release Awake , his first studio album in nearly six years, via Ghetto Youths . Recorded at the Lion's Den in Miami, Florida and Tuff Gong in Kingston, Jamaica, the 16-track followup to 2003's A Time and Place is said to reflect the inspiration of, "all the family who have come before [him]." Which means, one should [...]

If you buy one album today - buy this. The bonus edition was released yesterday in the UK and Europe. The standard edition had only previously been available in the US - a tragedy, really. Check out the three main collaborators on the album art opposite, then brace yourself for the list of collabs on the album. Actually, I'm only going to mention a few else we'd be here all day so MF Doom, DJ Shadow and Fatboy Slim all make an appearance. Ouch this is really smoking the shit out my soundsystem as I write [...]

Solesides and Def Jux have finally released new information about the long awaited The Mighty Underdogs album Droppin' Science Fiction . The hip hop group, composed of underground heavyweights the Gift of Gab , Lateef the Truthspeaker , and Headnodic , will drop their debut full-length on October 14. We also now know all of the special guests on the album. Based on the fact that the Underdogs' EP The Prelude featured collaborators on just about every track, we shouldn't be surprised by the list. [...]
