"I Wish You Would" is the lead single from DJ Khaled's upcoming sixth (!!?) studio album Kiss The Ring . I had high hopes for this on upon pushing play, but Kanye's auto-tune crooning and Rick Ross's standard posturing fall short on this one. I kind of suspected it would suck the way Yeezy opened the track with a flip of an old nursery rhyme . And the beat sounds like a Hit-Boy throwaway, sorry to say. When I first heard about DJ Khaled, I actually thought he was a legitimate DJ. I was wrong. DJ Khaled's innate skill to network and scream "DJ Khaled" on everyone of "his" songs has got him another hit. Enlisting Hit-Boy on the beat, accompanied by Rick Ross and Kanye West, "I Wish You Would" mixes all the artist's favorable traits. [...]
Whenever the obligatory, yearly DJ Khaled album rolls around, you can expect some hyphy tracks with Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, autotuned Kanye, and so on. For this track, "I Wish You Would", Khaled gets both of the latter to come out, along with a beat courtesy of Hit Boy. Slava Pastuk wishes you would try to play him something better. What exactly does DJ Khaled do? I think that's a valid question that requires an explanation. "Get money" isn't an acceptable answer. Although his name has been attached to dozens of street anthems in the last five years, most of them prominently mentioning the word "hood", I'm still not completly sure what Khaled's role is in creating them.
