Resuming the process of writing about new music after a mega-year-in-review blowout is kind of like showing up to work in the morning following an evening of getting hammered at an all-night holiday party (not that anyone on our staff knows anything about that). Nonetheless, our job is to keep you informed on new music, regardless of how hungover on 2011 we might be. 2012 promises new releases from a number of big-name acts (Animal Collective and The xx, to name two), and, like every year before it, is bound to be filled with surprising new acts that grab our [...]

A new track titled No Face by Karin Dreijer Andersson, which you know from The Knife and Fever Ray , is featured on the We Are The Works In Progress compilation. The song was initially written for the Ingmar Bergman play The Wolf Hour , of which the soundtrack was entirely written by Karin - hope we get to hear that soundtrack one day. With just a minimum of instruments and a focus on the opera-like vocals, No Face reminds me of the music of Klaus Nomi [...]

Praise be to all things holy that we've Rich Thane, of course for offering up The Line Of Best Fit but primarily for establishing Ja Ja Ja , a club night established in order to extravagantly celebrate the best ear candy Scandinavia and its neighbouring isles and distant outreaches have to unleash upon the unsuspecting clientele of North London. Found this: Austra is the Toronto trio of vocalist/pianist/etc Katie Stelmanis (ex-Galaxy), drummer Maya Postepski (ex-Galaxy, currently TRUST), and bassist Dorian Wolf (ex-Spiral Beach), but the bulk of the band's promo photos feature the singer by her lonesome. Even if Stelmanis wasn't the primary songwriter, her [...]
