Welcome to our longest ever post, and a whole bucketful of great songs. Last weekend, Barry-Sean came with me to the End of the Road Festival and outside of the musical orgy that is SxSW, we agreed it is the best festival we've ever had the pleasure of attending. In fact he's been writing about it ever since. Here's what he has to say.... Having arrived early on Friday afternoon (yes, we missed secret guests Mark Lanegan & Isobel Campbell on Thursday night due to a prior 5-a-side football engagement), and after popping up tents we headed [...]

So, whilst the first half of 2010 was relatively quiet on the live music front, August was absolute mayhem. And as the dust settles on another festival period, and we try to assess the physical and financial damage in a calm and orderly fashion, it doesn't look like things are slowing down on the gig radar. Which I'm rather pleased about. Monday 6 th September 2010: Miaoux Miaoux and Wounded Knee at Electric Circus . Bart's House . Sneaky [...]

Shuffle Sundays is a weekly feature in which we feature a cover chosen at random by my iTunes shuffle. The songs will usually be good, occasionally be bad, always be interesting. All downloads will only be available for one week, so get them while you can.I'd wager that at least three-quarters of the people who bought last year's Loving Takes This Course: A Tribute to the Songs of Kath Bloom had

Lots of highly-anticipated albums this week, though, none that I'm too entirely excited about; with the likes of Hot Chip , Yeasayer leading the pack of new releases. I've listened to both albums, and while I like the singles from the two, the albums as a whole don't really work for me. In regards to Hot Chip , the group seems to forgo any kind of dance tracks this time around in favor of focusing on songwriting. The results are a bit hit or miss, but the title track is definitely great. [...]

It looks like another great week for new releases. The highlight for me this week was easily Yeasayer's Odd Blood . I think this is a great album and a worthy followup to their debut. The album might not be as instant, but with continued listens it will prove to be great. This I can guarantee. I can also recommend Massive Attack's Heligoland ( although P4k doesn't ). I mean it's freaking Massive Attack, they're not going to put out a shit album. To be honest [...]

Kath Bloom - Heart So Sadly
Kath Bloom - Is this Called Living?

"moonlight" war 1984 das letzte gemeinsame werk, danach kam lange zeit nichts. erst 1999 erschien als selfrelease "come here: the florida years", weitere neun [...]

Was hält [...]

Loving Takes This Course: A Tribute To The Songs Of Kath Bloom is a beautiful two-disc set featuring new covers of Kath Bloom songs by Devendra Banhart, Scout Niblett, Josephine Foster, Corrina Repp, and The Concretes among others. The second disc in the set contains the original recordings by Kath Bloom, an excellent bonus feature that I wish other tributes would include. This review has unfortunately been gathering dust in my draft folder since April, forgotten until I began writing about the new Judee Sill tribute [...]

I guess you can say I have a major weakness when it comes to tribue albums. I love them. Even if I am not all that familiar with the person being immortalized in tribute album form, as is the case here with 'Loving Taking It's Course: A Tribute To The Songs Of Kath Bloom.' Bloom is a singer/songwriter who you can read all about here . The album is really fantastic, and I do believe it did its job - with me anyhow - as I am now inclined to check out some [...]
earlier this month, bill callahan played his cover of kath bloom's "the breeze / my baby cries" at an in-store performance in his hometown waterloo records. the cover can be found on the recent kath bloom tribute album loving takes this course . also, check out "too many birds" and "the wind and the dove" from the same performance.

Bij The Late Great Daniel Johnston werkte het goed. De aanpak is voor Loving Takes This Course, A Tribute to the Songs of Kath Bloom dezelfde. CD 2 bevat de originelen van Kath [...]
Marble Sounds – Come Here The Dodos – Biggest Light Of All Two picks from just an exceptionally beautiful compilation of covers of Kath Bloom's songs, pieced together by Chapter Records. I spoke to Guy Blackman, the label's founder, on the phone the other day and he laughed like he wasn't heaps amused and sighed and said "Jeez, what a labour of love." Well, it was worth it. Tribute albums are often dodgy but the quality of the covers on here is insane, especially given the scope for [...]

Lot's of stuff out today people - lots of stuff. Here's what we're liking this week... Felice Brothers Yonder is the Clock (Team Love) mp3: Run Chicken Run This shambling array of dusty sounds and ragged Americana is one step away from the Felice Brothers' break out album. The Felice Brothers have the talent, look and sound to move into the main stream. Compared to their forefathers, The Band, these upstate NY brothers are [...]

Saku Soukka Sister Suvi - "Golden" Spent some of yesterday with Merrill Garbus, the woman who is Tune-Yards and one third of Sister Suvi. We took our bikes to the quarry, threw on our walkmen, went down deep. In the gloom we listened to Billy Joel, Pavement, mined copper and zinc. We came out with our jean-jacket pockets full. We biked back to my place, stopping for dark beer and honeycomb toffee. We listened to the Velvet Underground's Loaded and smiled and laughed, window [...]

Sister Suvi - "Golden" . Spent some of yesterday with Merrill Garbus, the woman who is Tune-Yards and one third of Sister Suvi. We took our bikes to the quarry, threw on our walkmen, went down deep. In the gloom we listened to Billy Joel, Pavement, mined copper and zinc. We came out with our jean-jacket pockets full. We biked back to my place, stopping for cinnamon-raisin bagels. We listened to the Velvet Underground's Loaded and smiled and laughed, window open, crows weaving in murders outside my open window, and with our metals spread flat before us we [...]

When the first Sweet Relief album was released way back in 1993, the foremost questions in my mind were, "Who the hell is Victoria Williams and how did she get all these folks to cover her tunes." The idea of the tribute album seemed wonderful: use hip and well-known artists as vectors to expose more listeners to under appreciated artists, thereby saving them from eternal "cult" status or, as in the case with both Sweet Relief releases, daunting medical bills. Actually, it was a great idea, and early efforts such [...]
The name Kath Bloom will not be instantly recognizable to the average music fan. However, the American folks singer and her songs have had a significant impact on the musical landscape. The new album Loving Takes This Course (out April 7th) is a testament to that.A 2-CD set, the first is comprised of covers of Bloom's songs as performed by notably indie artists of today, such as Devandra
