So despite the rain and mud struggles, I braved two of the three days at Governors Ball this weekend. I should have gone on Sunday, but my body just couldn't do it. Young LA rapper Kendrick Lamar recently signed a deal with Interscope Records and is poised hit it big when he releases his first big studio album, Good Kid in a Mad City. But is he ready? If his latest single "The Recipe" is any indication, Kendrick is ready and then some. Sure, he's got help from Dr. Dre, but at just 24, he has maturity- and talent- to spare. He's often been compared to his idol, Tupac Shakur, and the excellent, easygoing flow and laid-back vibe of "The Recipe" show that the comparisons aren't too far off. [...]
