Check out Kendrick Lamar performing two of last year's best hip hop songs on Saturday Night Live this past weekend: "Swimming Pools (Drank)" and "Poetic Justice" (sans Drake's verse). Lamar absolutely kills it, performing with a live band behind him, fully-equipped with keyboards, chimes, and saxophone. After the live performances, check out the new Lonely Island video featuring Kendrick Lamar. Yes, you read that correctly. Kendrick Lamar - "Swimming Pools (Drank)" Live on SNL [...]
2012 wasn't a big year for the rap album. Singles succeeded throughout the internet and (to some extent) the mainstream, but there weren't any albums that grasped at the public's attention. That is, except for Kendrick Lamar and his opus. An album devoted to a singular purpose, it achieved a portrait of a young man growing up in Compton. Lamar is a talented rapper and has an ear for production, but it's his storytelling that sets him apart from hip hop's collective mass. Around a diverse palette of beats, [...]
If you've had even a passing interest in hip hop, chances are you're interested in checking out Kendrick Lamar's Good Kid M.A.A.D. City , which has finally seen the light of day. But while my first spin has shown a lot of quality on Good Kid (not really a surprise), I've been bumping one of the bonus cuts for the last half hour. Kendrick has called in his Black Hippy Crew cohorts Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock and Ab-Soul to rock over early single 'Swimming Pools', with all the crew putting in [...]
Artist: Kendrick Lamar Title: The Heart Pt. 3 (Will You Let It Die?) (Prod. By Tae Beast) File Name: SoundCloud
Kendrick Lamar stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night to promote the upcoming album release of Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City . Although he did not surprise the crowd with a performance of his latest track Compton featuring Dr. Dre , which hit the web two days ago, Kendrick had another surprise in mind for the Late Night audience. Kendrick instead opted for a raw performance of Swimming Pools (Drank) with the help of the Late Night Band and legendary neo soul group, [...]
Last night, Kendrick Lamar hit "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" in support of his upcoming album good kid, m.A.A.d. city (out October 2). He performed "Swimming Pools (Drank)" backed as always by The Roots. Check out what Kendrick Told RubyHornet about his single and get ready for the release of GKMC in the coming weeks. Check it out below.
Not wasting anytime, Chicago's DJ Screwtapes gives us a chopped and screwed version of Kendrick Lamar's latest single, "Swimming Pools (Drank)" . Lamar's new record lends itself well to the chopped and screwed experience, and Screwtapes doesn't try to do too much here. Listen and download the new one below.
Kendrick Lamar is great for hip hop. His flow and rhymes are refreshing and really really good. Cop his album Section.80
On this good ole' Friday The 13th, Kendrick Lamar decided to drop off a single titled "Swimming Pools (Drank)”, which is produced by T-Minus. K dot always switches his sound up a bit with each release, and with his experimenting in the 2nd verse, he shows you why it works. His album, good kid, m.A.A.d city is scheduled to be released October 2nd.
I've been a little concerned that Kendrick Lamar has fallen under Dr Dre's spell recently. You know the one: where highly anticipated albums fall off the face of the earth, never to be heard from again. But fear not, 'cause Kendrick's back today with a new tune from his upcoming Dre-assisted album, Good Kid M.A.A.D City , which is due to be released in October. Apparently. 'Swimming Pools (Drank)' - produced by T-Minus - is all about the booze. Not the 'lets pop bubbly and spray it on women' kind [...]
In the midst of a relatively slow music day, the good kid in a m.A.A.D city drops a new joint on us. Like some of his previous work, Kendrick uses some funky voice manipulation to give us a taste of that Houston style while preserving the flow that makes him so unique. On the surface it seems like a drinker's anthem, but it's quite the cautionary tale. A clever move, slipping that message into a more pop-oriented beat (watch the hi-hat) produced by T-Minus. No real quotables so I doubt it'll get much radio play, but it ain't [...]
