We are excited to announce that Toronto's DJ Barletta sent us a special little treat that he put together for the fans of Plugged Not Thugged. To pump up the party monsters who are attending MAJOR RAGER #8 at Augusta House this coming Saturday, Barleezy-who is headlining the event-has assembled an Exclusive Plugged Not Thugged Minimix that is sure to get the Rager crowd amped for another mega-gnarly shaker in Kensington Market. The minimix is nothing but pure fire, and gives fans a small taste of Barleezy's new work which includes the [...]
by cheryl santa maria Due to the garbage collection strike that's taking place in Toronto (now in its eighth day) the extremely stinky city has decided to cancel this Wednesday's Canada Day festivities . Hooray for patriotism. Artist: Animal Collective (dam funk remix) [...]
we had a great gig in Toronto last night. We played at Bread & Circus in Kensington Market, a lovely area that reminded me alot of Ashbury Heights in San Fransisco. Lots of organic food and alternative clothing. At first we were a bit dissapointed, after the last band had soundchecked for like two hours, we were told to hurry up and got a 10 minute soundcheck. Luckily we're pretty few and pretty well prepaired so we were ok anyway. The show was great, Jonas played the iPhone, Jocke descended to an old piano in the midst of the [...]

(Click on the flyer for Facebook Event) Party for A Cause (PFAC) is a student group at the University of Toronto that has been throwing hot parties for a couple of years now to raise money for charity. Having worked with them as a promotional rep over the past year I have come to admire the amount of work and dedication these individuals put into this venture. Thursday February 26th [...]
The history of pop music is chock full of unlikely alliances and odd partnerships. Like when Frank Zappa started hanging out with The Monkees. Or when Aimee Mann harmonized with Geddy Lee. Or when jazz legend Miles Davis played on a crap Toto album. And who can forget Garth Brooks's contributions to the sessions that produced Chris Gaines's immortal debut album? Today's post is another left-field head-scratcher: A single from short-lived Toronto psych outfit Kensington Market, co-written by the guy who produced Cream's signature classic Sunshine of Your Love and the fellow who produced Rough Trade's new wavy, girl-on-girl fantasy [...]

The Kensington Market were a Toronto band that recorded two albums in the late 60s off the Warner Brothers label. Their first album, Avenue Road appeared in 1968 and was greeted with great acclaim. Avenue Road was a modest effort that was noteworthy for a few reasons, it featured decent pop instincts and solid songwriting. In 1969 the band released their final lp titled Aardvark. After the release of this disc the band broke up a few months later, leaving behind a much stronger lp than their debut. Aardvark is a weird and wonderful mini masterpiece in which [...]
