Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) Director: James Foley (Perfect Stranger, Fear) Writer: David Mamet (Hannibal, Ronin, The Untouchables) Starring: Al Pacino (Scarface, Any Given Sunday, Gigli), Jack Lemmon (Some Like It Hot, Grumpy Old Men), Alec Baldwin (The Departed, 30 Rock, The Hunt for Red October), Kevin Spacey (American Beauty, The Usual Suspects, Moon), Ed Harris [...]

“ Who is Keyser Söze?” The answer to this question is revealed in the film’s final scene and it’s quite a shocker. The film is an intricate exercise in gamesmanship with a plot that weaves a bewildering tale about five suspects in a police lineup who conspire together to pull off a drug heist. Their common bond is that they all fear a man they’ve never met – Keyser Söze. The film’s trickiest role is executed with smooth and supreme slyness and the filmmakers provide a great many noticeable hints if you realize which suspect bears the [...]

It took a while, but it seems filmmakers are starting to tell a wealth of stories to about the impact of the financial crisis that lead to the worldwide recession. Although there have been several foreign films, including the animated film from China Piercing 1 , that have looked at the fallout the crisis from the average persons standpoint, many of the North American films, like the documentary Inside Job , have focused more the crisis from a business standpoint. Margin Call is a film that falls into that latter category. At first [...]

"Just remember, you're still younger than Jennifer Aniston." And with those words, my friend Mara comforts me every year on my birthday, citing Aniston because she looks so great, and she's three months older than I am. I've always had a bit of a love-hate thing with her, and not just as in I love her and I hate her because she's beautiful. I loved her on Friends , but I hated how, as she made the transition from the small screen to the big one, she never seemed to get [...]

Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) Being is sales can be tough; I remember in Grade Ten working at a company phoning people during their dinner hour asking them to participate in a survey which, more often than not, they declined in a response filled with colourful metaphors. It wasn’t a boiler room, but I remember the manager cracking the whip and ensuring we were on the phones making calls, persuading the leads to take the surveys. I didn’t last long, maybe a month, but that was [...]
I have to admit that I wasn't planning to watch Horrible Bosses, but I do love Jason Bateman (did anyone else watch It's Your Move way back when?) so I thought it might not be the worst thing I could do to end a perfect lazy Sunday. While there were parts of the movie during [...]

Horrible Bosses Horrible Bosses is really a tale of two films, one is extremely funny and the other is misguided. The first half of the film hits all the right comedic notes. Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell are outstanding as they take their characters to the extreme. The writing in this section is witty and fresh and really raises the film above expectations. Unfortunately the film does not sustain its comedic high throughout. The minute the murder scene occurs, the film begins to lose its way. The story [...]

(Out now on Daylight Curfew . Note the art above? Yeah. Between Matt writing the below review and our posting it, Kevin Spacey's people took legal action. Ouch. Maybe Green Jelly and Redd Kross can give them some pointers.) Kevin Spacey would like you to stop calling this album “ Kevin Spacey .” Which is sad, because I was really looking forward to describing this album in terms that are also applicable to Mr. Spacey. Oh well, his loss. Cassettes Won’t Listen, if you didn’t know, is a guy named Jason Drake from [...]

Please note these are not new to Netflix Instant today but merely in the past month or so. Misery (1990) Director: Rob Reiner (This is Spinal Tap, A Few Good Men) Starring: James Caan (Elf, The Godfather), Kathy Bates (Titanic, The Office(TV)) Genre: Thriller Why You Should Watch It: Based off the 1987 Stephen [...]

Photo and autograph courtesy of the G Archives. Kevin Spacey Happy birthday to actor Kevin Spacey, who starred in one of my favorite comedies of all time - "Swimming With Sharks." We've all had bosses that we want to tie up and hurt and I am sure that movie helped a lot us get out our aggressions. Today is an epic day to be born as evidenced by the fact that the following people were born on July 26: actresses Sandra Bullock and Helen [...]

Good Neighbours Nothing like a Canadian thriller to get the heart pumping. Horrible Bosses A dark comedy about killing your boss can be a tricky thing to pull off. This film does look promising though.
Jason Drake, aka Cassettes Won't Listen, is not a stranger to cease and desists. Back in 2008 CWL was served with a cease and desist from none other than the RIAA for his Guns N Roses / Ludacris mashup titled Ludacris Democracy. The release matched up the yet-to-be-released Chinese Democracy with Ludacris ...
So Jason Bateman is also in another comedy this summer, aside from that awful looking one where he switches places with Ryan Reynolds. In this one he teams up with Charlie Day (great to see him get a role outside of It's Always Sunny) and Jason Sudeikis to kill their horrible bosses. The bosses are played by Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell. And though it's hard to imagine Charlie Day wanting to kill Jennifer Aniston because she's sexually harassing him, this still seems promising enough. Plus how ridiculous does Colin Farrell look? And it's got [...]
Filed under: News , Pop Culture , I Fought the Law Cassettes Won't Listen Hollywood star Kevin Spacey recently had something to say about an album with the planned title of 'Kevinspacey,' and the band, Cassettes Won't Listen , had to listen. Apparently, Mr. Spacey did not approve of the use of his namesake as he promptly served the band a cease and desist letter. We take it, he's not a fan. [...]

Cassettes Won't Listen, the project of Los Angeles producer and multi-instrumentalist Jason Drake, doesn't create confrontational music. One listen to single "Perfect Day" reveals a pleasant and smooth pop-jam fitting of a title like "Perfect Day." However, Drake seems to know how to get in trouble, and this time is has resulted in a forced album title change. Originally titled KEVINSPACEY , Cassettes Won't Listen were served a cease and desist order from the actor, forcing a change to, uh, EVINSPACEY . This will not help the actor's indie-cred, which has been plummeting since Pay [...]

Jason Drake, aka Cassettes Won't Listen, was all set to release his new album next month on Daylight Curfew. He had a catchy title too, he was gonna call it 'KEVINSPACEY', but the world famous actor was not overly enamoured with the idea and has since put a Cease and Desist in place. So now Jason Drake has gone back to the drawing board and come up with an almost as catchy title: 'EVINSPACEY'. Either way we like the sound of the music - check a track out below: Cassettes Won't Listen - 'Perfect Day'
Jason Drake, better known as Cassettes Won't Listen, is not a stranger to cease and desist orders. In 2008, Drake was served with a cease and desist order from the RIAA for his Guns N Roses/Ludacris mashup titled "Ludacris Democracy." The release matched up the yet-to-be-released Chinese Democracy with Ludacris acapellas. Needless to say, GNR [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

My roommate is super into Def Jux , the old hip-hop label, so when he ran at me with this track, I had a feeling I was just going to be polite, say it was good, and move on, but I can't help it (or him for that matter). This new song from former Def Jux producer, Jason Drake aka Cassettes Wont Listen , is pretty up my alley, especially when it comes to high energy electronica with hints of lo-fi bedroom pop. Cassettes Wont Listen have a new record titled [...]
