September 22, 2011 was a big day in Montreal and for Pop Montreal . Arcade Fire put on a free outdoor concert at Place des Festivals of Quartier des Spectacles where Montreal Jazz Festival is held. The result was 101,000 people came out to see Montreal's favorite band. It was more for the band to give them a big thank you to Montreal for supporting them all these years. Music festivals have come and gone in Canada, but one which seems to have taken hold and established an identity is Montreal's Osheaga Music and Arts Festival . Conveniently scheduled right at the end of July, and picturesquely located on its own island by the Saint Lawrence River, it brought fans from across the country and elsewhere up close and personal with nearly 100 bands and DJs. Musician and producer Damon Albern has had a varied past couple years. He's seen the end of the Gorillaz franchise, he's recorded, mixed, and produced an impromptu album - The Fall - entirely on the fly while touring the US, all using an iPad. Finally, the time is here. Turntable mastermind Kid Koala is set to release his long awaited upcoming 132-page graphic novel Space Cadet on Ninja Tune this fall. The novel is drawn entirely on etchboards and will include a "still picture score" of music composed and recorded by Kid Koala. Space Cadet tells the story of an adventurous space cadet and her guardian robot which touches on the relationship between technology and isolation, and celebrates the idea of connectivity through family and the cycles that build generations.
