The walk between Moogfest' s U.S. Cellular Center and the much more intimate Orange Peel is approximately 18 minutes. Not too bad in festival terms, and instead of battling the hoard during that time, the hike is better spent grabbing a handmade crepe, petting some puppies, watching a few buskers, indulging in some fine chocolates, and/or sharing some stories over a microbrew with a local. Okay, so maybe the walk can end up taking closer to an hour. That is part of the charm around Asheville. Void of the chains that clutter most downtown skylines, Asheville runs at its own [...]

HOTvsDOPE Vol. 1.1 by DJ J-Live HOTvsDOPE was founded by J-Live. J-Live tours worldwide as an emcee and a deejay, but has started this party as his main residency in Atlanta GA. Each party will feature two deejays going round robin and two visual artists with their work on display. The goal is to cultivate an environment where the best of popular music isn't shunned, but can share a space with lesser known but also high quality tracks. Hot Vs Dope is about going out to a party and not hearing the same old [...]
At the end of summer, Dyl’s come back from the YACHT show; he keeps checking himself saying he knows it’s crazy but he felt so sure that everything they were saying was in line with the Illuminati shit his corners of the internet talk about.
We can't say enough good things about Killer Mike's R.A.P. Music. The entire project, from the actual album to its quality videos thus far, have solidified it as one the [...] The post Killer Mike - "Reagan" Video appeared first on The Smoking Section .

Killer Mike "Reagan" Politics, conspiracy and dope flow (sorry, I'll refrain from ever using that phrase again) fuse together in this entertaining animated music video. "Reagan" was directed by Daniel Garcia & Harry Teitelman and is off Killer Mike's El-P produced album R.A.P. Music . -Alex Reagan by KillerMikeGTO [...]
A great cut from a critically loved, but generally under-appreciated album, given life by the masterful Daniel Garcia . He previously was responsible for an old favorite gem of mine: the surrealist video accompaniment to J Dilla's 'Nothing Like This.' Killer Mike's hyper-aware, political wandering through the cultural fallout of Reagan is a fine alternative to the dog and pony of tonight's presidential debates. Both R.A.P Music and co-conspirator EL-P's Cancer For Cure easily stand tall together as easily the best this year has provided.
OK, Killer Mike , you win. You officially have the best videos of the year for tracks off your incredible album with El-P, R.A.P. Music . Proving my point is the brand-new set of visuals for "Reagan", the overtly political track that deals with, of course, all the bullshit caused during the '80s. It's not all about dissing ol' Ronald, though, as Mike dishes out vitriol to the other leaders of the United States. And to complement all of this, he's received some slick animated visuals that tell his story perfectly. Watch it below.
The original version of Killer Mike’s "Anywhere But Here" was a compact song about Mike driving through various areas of New York and Atlanta where he's seen death. It's a bleak song, told with humanity, ... read more
First thing I noticed about this track-Chamillionaire is a featured MC. Second thing I noticed about this track- Killer Mike says "potholes" within the first few bars of his verse. One of these things is a lot cooler than the other, but we are keeping an open mind and giving the remix of "Anywhere But Here" a fair shot in any case. Nothing has changed here besides the Houston rapper's appearance, which happens to work out better than we thought. I have no idea why Mike decided to enlist Chamillionaire on a remix, I honestly can't remember the last [...]

photo by Dave Lichterman When Queens' Despot , Brooklyn's Mr. Mf'n eXquire , Atlanta's Killer Mike , and Brooklyn's El-P (and all of their supplementary musicians) stopped by Street Sounds back in July, it was clear that the quartet's performance would not only be one of the KEXP studio's most crowded performances that month, but also one of the most thrilling. The relative newcomers, Despot and Mr Mf'n eXquire, held their own against the spotlight of 20122s most acclaimed hip-hop pair, and one by one, the MCs passed the mic around [...]
During their recent tour, Despot , Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire , Killer Mike and El-P stopped by KEXP studios to perform one song each. We already knew that these guys can all kill it, but it is great to see them all in such close quarters having such a great time. All laughs here, as Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire screws up his raps, Despot gets his name mispronounced, and El-P calls out instrumental solos throughout his performance. All-in-all, this is a 25-minute video that you are not going to want to miss. Give it a spin [...]

Moogfest is perhaps the biggest festival in the state I now call home, aka North Carolina. And today, the folks behind the two-day event, which goes down Oct. 26-27 in Asheville, N.C., have shared the lineup. Aside from a few, erm, uninteresting headliners like Primus 3D, it looks to be another year of killer sets. So far, here's who's been announced: Primus 3D, Orbital, Miike Snow, Santigold , Richie Hawtin, Squarepusher, Explosions In The Sky, The Magnetic Fields, Four Tet , Divine Fits, GZA , Carl Craig, Pantha Du Prince, Shpongle Presents The [...]
