Underground hip-hop aficionados no doubt hold the Last Emperor's "Secret Wars" up there as some of the best nerd-rap around. And why not? The Philly MC was able to cram damn near ever comic book character into the track (and its sequel) while keeping it interesting enough for the non-nerds. Killer Mike 's new cut, "Villain", might not reach that level, but I get the feeling folks could just zone out and bang this shit hard considering the snarling production. Plus, the final verse kind of reminded me of "Secret Wars", which is something I could never ever be [...]

By now the "All Gold Everything" takeover is in full effect. If you've listened to any hip-hop radio in the past few weeks then you know the Trinidad Jame$ viral smash is getting as many plays as the biggest hip-hop artists today. There's even been an official remix which is, well, it exists . We can close the category for best freestyle over this beat all thanks to Killer Mike. The ATL veteran came in and absolutely bodied anyone else that tried to capitalize on the "All Gold Everything" buzz. He had a big 2012, and apparently we shouldn't [...]
El-P has been a revered rapper for years in some circles, but El-P , the producer, has been getting a lot of shine this year, what with single-handedly producing two of the year's best rap albums, his own Cancer 4 Cure , of course, as well as Killer Mike 's career defining R.A.P. Music . Now on October 23rd, El-P's work as a producer will be celebrated further with Fat Possum's release of the instrumental version of Cancer 4 Cure . Check out a track from the [...]
The Coup has released the new single, "WAVIP", from the forthcoming album, Sorry To Bother You, out October 30th through Anti. Joining The Coup on the single is Das Racist and Killer Mike. Listen to it after the jump.
The Coup will release their first album in six years, Sorry to Bother You , at the end of the month. OK, technically, it's dropping Oct. 30, but you get my point. And to build some excitement for the release, they just dropped a funky-as-hell new single, "WAVIP". The track finds frontman Boots Riley trading bars with Das Racist MCs Kool A.D. and Heems , the latter of whom finishes the cut, and Killer Mike . You kind of can't go wrong with that lineup and, thankfully, everyone shows up. Stream below.

"Anywhere But Here" was a highlight on Killer Mike 's already amazing major label debut R.A.P. Music , which featured the vocals of Emily Panic. Now, the track is made even better with the addition of Houston rapper Chamillionaire, who has been having a bit of a comeback this year. Killer Mike and Chamillionaire deliver solid verses overtop the brooding beats, with Emily's chilling chorus striking nevers as hard as ever. Stream it below.
First thing I noticed about this track-Chamillionaire is a featured MC. Second thing I noticed about this track- Killer Mike says "potholes" within the first few bars of his verse. One of these things is a lot cooler than the other, but we are keeping an open mind and giving the remix of "Anywhere But Here" a fair shot in any case. Nothing has changed here besides the Houston rapper's appearance, which happens to work out better than we thought. I have no idea why Mike decided to enlist Chamillionaire on a remix, I honestly can't remember the last [...]
Sorry we're a little late this month, friends. We've been busy working on some exciting things that we can't wait to be able to share with you in the coming months! This past month the releases really started to shine and you can see/hear it for yourself from the sweet sounds of Some Kind of Mixtape: May 2012 , which just you can check out via the player below. As always, there are "liner notes" after the jump with more information on each track. You should also be following us on 8tracks so we can share mixes [...]
In both independent and mainstream music over course of history, certain genres have been almost lead, or progressed, by the particular individuals which inhabit them. Take for example shoegaze, which was developed much further by artists such as My Bloody Valentine or Slowdive, or perhaps post-punk, with early material from Talking Heads, Gang of Fours, Joy Division, and many more. No matter the genre and/or era of that genre, certain forerunners never cease to immediately appear clear to the knowledgable music listener. Undoubtably, one of the pioneers of alternative hip-hop in the early 20002s is none other than [...]
Killer Mike and El-P really are an unstoppable force. Not only do they have the best bromance ever, but "R.A.P. Music" combines two of my favourite things; Atlanta hip hop and El-P’s magnificent beats. Christmas has come early and in the form of a political gangster rap album, folks. As disappointing as I am by my first impiressions of "Cancer For Cure ", El-P will always, always, pull through on the production. And that is exactly the case on [...]

May 15 is the day we will all hear R.A.P. Music , the collaborative album from Killer Mike and El-P. And as much as I want to wait until then to listen to the project in its entirety, I can't help hopping on these new streams of two cuts off the record. They're "Southern Fried" and "Jojo's Chillin", a pair of bass-heavy, lyrically deep, and sonically diverse joints from this sure-to-be legendary duo. Seriously, is there a better tag-team working right now than Mike and El? Let me know. You can stream both tracks at [...]
El-P wowed us with his last Cancer4Cure release “The Full Retard,” a swarming, internet-age jam which is easily one of our favorite hip-hop songs of 2012. Now he’s offering up single number two, “Tougher Colder Killer,” which features his frequent collaborator Killer Mike as well as Despot . El-P and co. serve up yet another truly killer beat that’ll take you about twenty listens to really dissect, especially as it’s buried under title-appropriate brutal verses from all three. We’re seriously repeat rewinding to that moment toward the song’s end when [...]
El-P drops a new track from his forthcoming album Cancer For Cure , featuring verses from Killer Mike and Despot. I love the song concept, too. To me, it seems to poke fun at the ongoing race in hip hop to come off tougher than the next guy. C'mon, guys. We all know that race has already been won . But seriously, it's a dimension worth attacking, and El-P does it with both guns blazin'. Despot and Mike come through just as hard, creating a superhero trio of ultra-aggressive rappers that tag team this beat like [...]

The song also features Despot and Killer Mike , both of whom will tag along with El-P on his just announced upcoming tour. Along with Despot and Killer Mike, El-P will be joined on tour by none other than Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire , and [...]
