I remember in day three of Pitchfork music festival ovhearing a fest-goer saying, "There needs to be more metal" - a sentiment I couldn't agree with more - but not just at the fest - in general. Well, Planetsexexploder do it up right. While not completely metal they have metallic tendencies along with grunge and stoner rock leanings. Their latest EP that dropped in April should quench any metalhead or hard rocker's palette as it features a muddy guitar crunch on "Hog or Hammer" and visceral screams during "Flight of the Falcor." Killer Moon is finally seeing the release of their new lp Tunnel Vision , and the band is celebrating with a free show at Empty Bottle with Creepy Band and Alma Negra tonight, May 14th.

It's hard to not just plug in the lava lamp and roll one up when Killer Moon come on. Their sludgy neo-psychedelia references every classic rock band ever associated with expanding one's mind - Sabbath, Hendrix, Floyd. Chicago's Killer Moon is the latest to be featured on the local video series Giant System , which captures local acts in their most natural habitat - the practice space. Killer Moon seems to have an affinity for 1960's-era acid rock as their reverbed guitar, bass throbbing rock takes a slow burning journey through mind altering territory.
