What? You still listen to THAT album? That record is so 2004 ! Well, that's okay, because we really like that one too, which is why we decided to come up with a list of our favorite albums of the last decade (2000-2009). Sure, these might not be YOUR favorite records, or the most critically acclaimed, but we sat down and really thought out every record from the past ten years that we keep coming back to in our collections. You're likely to disagree with some of these, and we won't tell you we're absolutely right we just [...]
Shouts to my boy DJ JuxtaPoser on the student mashup tip.. this is gonna do damage in September! Via DJ Cable .

Today marks the beginning of the second half of 2009. We've had a marvelous 6 months full of great music and it's time to update my list of the Absolute Best Songs of 2009 . Well, it's not really fair to call this an update really - I completely tossed out the old list and started up a new one from scratch. I didn't stop at the top 10 either - this list spans the 50 songs that I believe are the best of the year, so far. But like the first list, [...]

Whilst I'm still constantly amazed by how many obscure indie bands I've never heard of and how many legendary ones I've barely ever listened to (Sonic Youth and the Jesus & Mary Chain for example), I still assume that my depth of knowledge must be pretty impressive when it comes to left field independent music. I suppose it's almost inevitable that, as a consequence of this depth, my breadth of awareness has suffered an awful lot. I look back on my Best of the Year lists for 2004 and 2005 and there are bands [...]
Y o, for real, it's the weekend and its time to shake your moneymaker (not implying y'all are strippers or whatever). I stumble across a ton of awesome remixes as I surf this information ether-highway of ours. I don't like giving them dedicated posts cause 1) not everyone is super into remixes and 2) I don't want to dilute the attention that should be given to new artists. You feel me? I knew you would. So anyway, I am starting another new feature at TBE where I round up some of the sweetest remixes of late and toss 'em at [...]

Today I'll try something new. I just got out of bed, and I thought that I should try to make a blog posting although I'm so tierd I can't pronounce my name correctly, just to se what it feels like. Bloc Party - One Month Off (Filthy Dukes Vocal Remix) Primary 1 [...]

Thing One - Move It Thing One - Through the Winter Kick ass dance-rock: I can't think of a better way to describe You'll Be Fine by Thing One. With upbeat tracks like "Mop Yards," and "Move It," all I really wanted to do was dance when I was listening to this EP. At times, it reminded me of The Killlers (in a good way), David Bowie, specifically Joey Palestina's vocals, and Bloc Party. However, these comparisons really don't do the [...]

Franz Ferdinand is back (as if they ever left) and they have a new album coming out on the 27th of January. The disc is entitled "Tonight", and embodies the feelings that come from a night time of elation and debauchery according to Kapranos and company. The new disc shows off the bands progression; the guitars are less brash, the bass funkiness is cranked up and keyboards add to the slinky grooves of each song. This song unabashedly activates some of those latent disco tendencies that Franz have been flirting with since their smash hit self titled album in [...]

If there's one thing that Bloc Party vocalist Kele Okereke knows how to do — other than writing overwrought, mildly-amusing pablum that kids eat up — it's how to start and maintain a beef. And if there's one other prissy frontman with plenty of firsthand knowledge about not playing nice with others, it's The Killers' Brandon Flowers. That's what makes the following quote from Okereke so good: We played with The Killers, who are an American indie band and Franz Ferdinand, who are a Scottish indie band. I [...]
Is there another cat fight brewing? Read Kele's Mirror comments here. Bloc Party will tour North America this spring. So will The Killers. MP3: Bloc Party - Staying Fat
Vou hoje ao segundo registo de uma lista que continuo a prever que seja extensa, embora hoje a minha criatividade não esteja muito em alta. Prémio "Peço Licença para Fazer Cócó" - Wild Beasts Prémio "Put You in Your Place" - Scarlett Johansson ex-aequo com Santogold Prémio "GOLD L.E.S. S" - Santogold Prémio "I Love You but I've Turned the Stereo Off" - Brendan Canning Prémio "Deus Está em

I always wanted to make a best list and see if I actually had the patience and motivation to do one. It never came but now since I have this blog I finally stopped being lazy and tried to put some form of list together. I didn't start my blog until late July and didn't realize I would need to track my songs. I didn't do it by play count since I usually tend to overplay songs when they first come out, before concerts, with friends etc. If I based it on play count it would basically be Vampire Weekend, [...]
Muchos votaron y finalmente, la lista fue la siguiente: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul Portishead - Third Kings of Leon - Only By The Night MGMT - Oracular Spectacular The Killers - Day & Age [...]

Stereogum and team9 have teamed up for a third year in a row to bring us their MySplice III mashup compilation. The mix includes 2008 blog staples like Bloc Party, Lykke Le, of Montreal, Beck, and Crystal Castles mashed with 2008's ineluctable pop hits (Britney Spears, Rihanna, Kanye, Katy Perry). Oh, and they through in some oldies as well (Cyndi Lauper, Guns N' Roses, etc). I don't know if you guys feel it too, but I can't help but think this is the best MySplice yet. Stream the whole thing here, [...]

The final part of our 100 best songs of the year covers November and December 2008. Releases slow down considerable around the holidays, but we did see new albums from Beyonce, Britney Spears, Dido, Guns N' Roses, Honey Honey, Kayne West, The Killers, Tracy Chapman, and EPs from Coldplay, The Decemberists and Third Eye Blind. November/December Worst Album Covers (click title for bigger picture) [...]
Maybe I'll just make this a trend...every day I'll screw up my list a little bit further adding another new entry to the list. Today finds Peasant (#24) slipping in after downloading the album off Emusic last night. Check out their session on Daytrotter...his bare bones style is quite mesmerizing. The 11 Best Albums of 2008 (Part 3): 23. Kings of Leon - Only By the Night (Use Somebody - SNL)

I'm a bit scared of myself. Have I sold out? It's just that two of my tracks are on the hypem .com popular top 50 . I didn't really intend for that! Also, the two tracks I am posting today I had to think seriously about because although they're fantastic songs, I'm sure that you'll hear about them somewhere else. I came the conclusion that it's worth it because if just one of you doesn't have these songs then I will have done some good. If you've been here from the start, I won't forget you!!! [...]
