Stumbled across these recently. The Breeders' Last Splash demos are presented here. The Breeders will always remind me of high school and like lots of people in '93-'94, "Cannonball" was the cornerstone of any respectable mixtape. Thankfully the Kim Deal connection is how I learned about The Pixies , which is how I learned about a lot of things. Funny how shit works like that sometimes. Anyway, there's plenty of good stuff here. Enjoy. [...]

I am always late for everything and i take my time looking into the vast ocean of music. To effectively filter through endless posts of the blogosphere it makes sense to soak in it before you speak. Another day, another million artists being called the next big hype and EMA's first record, Past Life Martyred Saints , was one of the most blogged about names in 2011 thus far to slide into such a category. Erika M Anderson has learned well. [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive Continuing their highly successful 2010, OK Go return this week with the "Extra Nice Edition" of their latest album, 'Of the Blue Colour of the Sky.' While most hardcore Go-heads probably already have the original release, of note is a massive bonus disc that includes a handful of demos, remixes, covers and a lengthy interview with 'This American Life' host Ira Glass. OK Go were extra nice enough to let Spinner exclusively [...]

Almost every song on the radio talks about sex, and yes there are songs that can be described as sexual, but very few songs can capture true lust like "Hey". The opening guitar lick is so sensual, it seems almost dirty. The vocals are so filled with desire, that it almost comes across as begging. And the chorus erupts as Black and Kim switch off vocals, sounding like love gone perfectly right, or a relationship gone terribly wrong. Revisit the song below, as well as the Diplo remix... Pixies - "Hey" Bonus... [...]
Coming a little bit later than usual this week (one must sleep sometime), Something for the Weekend presents a video that has become a bit of a modern classic. With both the Pixies and Throwing Muses beginning a short term break in 1988 following an exhausting tour (both bands had been touring together throughout Europe for the Pixies album, Surfer Rosa), Kim Deal (Pixies) and Tanya Donelly formed

The Pop Five is a series of Pop Candy readers' pop-culture top five lists. Today's contribution comes from Nick T. (NikT22) in Seattle: Over the years, I've run into dozens of celebrities: I've met musicians like Cowboy Junkies, Cocteau Twins, Rufus Wainwright, Chris Issak, Siouxsie Sioux, Bob Mould, Donny and Marie (I know! stop laughing). I've met Sarah Ferguson, Sarah Jessica Parker and Chuck Palahniuk. But who are the ones I've really loved? Here we go:
Kim and Kelley deal are two of the hottest babes in the history of indie rock. If you threw a house party back in the 90's and they showed up, they would probably just spend the whole time talking to each other in the corner and looking really cool and indifferent. This would be known as "the babe corner," and there would be no non-babes allowed. That's kind of how this video makes us feel - like we're on the outs of some cool inside joke between the band. They couldn't care less that they're making [...]

The Florida based band Surfer Blood made a pretty big splash late last year when their debut single "Swim" became a bit of an underground hit. The single preceded the full-length Astro Coast by a number of months, but it certainly hinted at what was to come.
