Tweet Victor Florence 's " Winter " showcases everything that's right, and everything I love, about music. There is no tracking, no over-processed "Traditional" sounding vocals, just a song that's delivered with amazing clarity and purpose without anything being sold... You get a valid image of Victor Florence while listening to this song, each line passive and clear and perfect. This whole "no monsters, no magic" style carries a lot of weight with me. ![[Introducing] – Jordan O'Jordan](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3932186_lg.jpg)
Tweet Seattle-via-Waverly, Ohio transplant Jordan O'Jordan is a self-described "Chatty Cathy". This is evident by his charmingly off-beat lyrics, touching on topics as varied as fairy tales, science, the natural world, as well as grandmothers engaged in hilariously hateful feuds. Scientific references abound throughout his own unique brand of organic Appalachian folk pop. Informed by preoccupations as diverse as electricity, science, a capella singin', showtunes and folk songs, he has crafted a patchwork quilt of the scientific and [...]
"I don't know art, but I know what I like." "There's no accounting for taste." "Opinions are like assholes." There's validity to each one of these statements, but that doesn't mean that anyone's goin
By Megan Matuzak The Echo was filled with eager, wide-eyed scensters, Juno fans, and rowdy children this past Friday night. Kimya Dawson, who celebrated her birthday the day before, sported a pair of pink socks decorated with mustaches and her trustee guitar, inscribed with sharpie from fans of the past. A young family of six traveled from Tucson, Arizona for Kimya's LA performance. Kimya spent the first half of the show serenading the three little boys and their older sister,...

There has been no shortage of support within the music community for the ongoing Occupy movements. Jeff Mangum , Talib Kweli , Tom Morello , and Crosby Stills and Nash have all delivered performances, and Kanye West an appearance at Occupy Wall Street, and Rage Against the Machine's Zach De La Rocha recently showed his support with a poem . Now, a number of prominent musicians have bonded together and launched their own movement called Occupy Musicians. According to an issued press release , "Occupy Musicians will serve as a resource to facilitate performances [...]

On paper, singer-songwriter Kimya Dawson has committed every artless crime in creating music. Her homemade, low-fi records are filled with rambling talk-singing lyrics about love and longing, evocative of a neurotic teen writing their first poem against a three-note song. The success in Dawson's songwriting, then, comes from the Olympia-native's unexpected sense of humor and awareness of her clichéd style; she manages to hang on to all the good parts that come from the honesty of adolescence and simultaneously refuses to be embarrassed by all the stupid, embarrassing parts of it. After reaching mainstream recognition for her work on the [...]
Kimya Dawson, once half of the Moldy Peaches, just released a new solo album, Thunder Thighs (Great Crap Factory). The video for lead single "Driving Driving Driving" is an adorable homemade clip of Dawson and her daughter Panda making a clay volcano. It's less of a music video and more of a video with music [...]

Kimya Dawson has been rather busy since the The Moldy Peaches' self-imposed hiatus seven years ago. Releasing several solo albums with a distinct lo-fi flavour, and perhaps, most famously, contributing to the Juno soundtrack. Dawson's latest, Thunder Thighs , the follow up to Alphabutt – which included titles such as Pee Pee In The Potty – is sure to be an eccentric affair. All I Could Do opens the record with yearning, distant keys, while you get the feeling that Dawson is reminiscing in a child like state while [...]

Behind the veil of a collaborative science project with daughter Panda, the first video from Kimya Dawson 's forthcoming album tackles some heavyweight material. While the former half of the Moldy Peaches is best known for her whimsical lyrics and cherub-like vocals, this song speaks to an apocalypse event and the visual the imagery gets rather haunting when the makeshift volcano erupts, leaving viewers to imagine the toy animals being smothered in hot lava. It's a far cry from video game cheat codes and tire swings, but it's quite powerful as well. The album, entitled Thunder Thighs [...]
