"Shadows on Behalf" sounds like it was recorded at several points throughout history - at a '60s soul festival, the set of a '70s porno, a pioneering hip-hop sample demonstration from the '80s... it's a wonderful smorgasbord of stylistic periods, to say the least. The best classification for it, and many of The Stepkids' tracks, [...]

We first mentioned the Kinetic Stereo Kids new album, Kid Moves, back in February. We felt it was worthy of another mention as the album continues to garner a ton of praise even though the release is more than six months out. The band has been touring relentlessly in support of the album and they've become recognized as putting on a great live show. It's a hardworking band from the hardworking city of Flint, Michigan, and you can hear it in their beat-heavy, sonic music. They've [...]

The boys of Green Day once said to wake me up when December comes . While we're not there quite yet, this does mark the last Friday of September 2009 and thus, the last Friday Mixtape of September 2009. So, take the time to reminisce about the month that was Pavement, Kanye, and CoS' two year anniversary, while enjoying this week's best mix of new singles, covers, and remixes as well as mp3s from some up-and-comes you might just want to check out. Although many industry professionals may have a tendency to disagree, there is nothing wrong with the audible expression of youthful exuberance. An immediate assumption would associate this expression with experience, which is a vastly premature notion that is prompted by the same stereotypes that plague mainstream pop artists. Society has grown so accustomed to seeing boy bands and pop idols being coddled by restless music execs, paid-for-hire songwriters, and millionaire choreographers that insist on implementing generic ideas in order to appeal to the general public. Consequently, there is not even a shock factor involved when one of these glittery wunderkinds [...]

If you've not read Trouble's new blog, Smile Now Cry Later , then stop wasting your time here and go over and check it out. Not only is she a fantastic writer, but she's got a compelling story to tell. The posts thus far have focused on her couple of decades of experience working with gangs. Her stories are equal parts fascinating, frightening and redeeming. But this post isn't just a plug for someone else's blog. A post that I read this morning got to me in a way that I didn't expect, that I [...]

Flint, Michigan's Kinetic Stereokids released their sophomore album, Kid Moves , last month. Kid Moves is a mercurial entanglement moving between more straight forward songs in to narcotic slipstreams laden with beats, whizzes, and other aural fixtures. Throughout these twelve "folktronic" tracks, one is likely to find traces of hip/hop, loser-era Beck, kosmische indulgence, transient jams, and other things found under the sun. Kid Moves is as vibrant as it is diverse, whether that be the submerged atmosphere of "Planes With Teeth," with its trailing freakout; the overall inertia and thrust of the melody on [...]

Since I slacked off last week, there are two weeks of releases in this post. Although they aren't the strongest of release weeks in both quality and length, there are still plenty of gems among the rough. This week features some great remastered albums and some excellent new artists for all to enjoy. Since I was away at SXSW over the past week and a half, you may have noticed the lack of updates with The Daily Graboid. To make up for this, I'm going to put up both last week's and this week's releases at some point today. You can expect this week's releases to be up later in the afternoon, but for now here are the releases for the week of 3/17. An Horse Rearrange Beds [...]

February may be the shortest of the year, but by no means is it the slowest when it comes to news. Between festival lineups and reunion news, showcase announcements and new albums, the last 27 days certainly brought many sleepless nights and vivid memories. So what better way to cap off the month then by offering another edition of our Friday Mixtape. As always, below you'll find a mix of the week's best new singles, remixes, and covers, along with mp3s from a few up-and-comers you may just want to check out. NEW Singles: [...]

Based in Flint and Chicago the Kinetic Stereokids are a mix of an experimental and a traditional indie guitar band. They just love collages, so it´s no wonder that there are plenty of samples on their sophomore album Kid Moves . Plenty of stuff to discover for music geeks who can handle a bit of feedback, rap and Americana within a single song, but watch out for cheesy lyrics. Drugs are bad for you and all that. Kid Moves is released on the band's own label [...]

Boogaloo Sunset @ The Boogaloo It`s going to be a quick run through tonight. I like to call it post, run and hide, sometimes works, more often than not, doesn`t. The Takeover UK have proved it only takes one plain white truck, some friends and a cool Pittsburgh band to make a fantastic video. New EP , forthcoming debut album and US tour completes the equation. Indie/Rock guys chasing the perfect Pop single, Superb ! [...]
