Sometimes I don't do this enough, but it's a good thing to give second chances. This is how I feel about Denver's King Mob. A little while ago they released a split with Pina... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

This is it. 2011 has come to a halt and making way for a year where the 2012 calendar mysteriously ends. Let's make it a good year and remember the year in Denver music for 2011. It's impossible for me to get out to every show. I do my best to get out to the shows that seem "interesting" to me and more often than not skip acts that I've seen previously. It's always fun to catch bands on the upslope like at Hi-Dive or Bluebird and later find out that they have a summer show already [...]

This list was an extremely easy one to do, however, like any lists, I'm sure I've left off more than I care to remember. All I had to do is go to iTunes and click on the songs I played most in 2011. POW! If it were only that easy. Here's a small sampling of my favorite songs of 2011 and I wish the rest of that M83 albums was like "Midnight City." Sigh.

New London supergroup King Mob release debut album 'Force 9' on 31st October and announce a special London show. King Mob is a brand new English beat combo comprising guitar legend Chris Spedding (Roxy Music, Elton John, John Cale, Paul McCartney), Glen Matlock - bass (Sex Pistols, Iggy Pop, Faces), Martin Chambers - drums (Pretenders), Stephen W Parsons aka Snips - vocals (film composer and vocalist of legendary 70's band Sharks) [...]

Our local Denver scene is growing and busting at the seams. The UMS has been running the four day marathon for a couple of years now, and it amazes me that our scene is able to sustain that amount of time and venues. Granted, a certain percentage of the acts are national ones, however, we live at a present time when our local acts are nearly overshadowing the national ones. I started my Saturday at the well-adorned Illiterate Gallery for an early performance from duo, Piña Chulada . Their rhythmic performance [...]
Another mix for you! Here it is: (Stream-able on your smartphone) King Mob - Take My Hand, I'm Changing Pina Chulada - Smiling Dog Ann Steel - Sparkling World Danny Elfman - La complainte de Sally Harry Johnson - It's Nothing To Me Afternoon Brother - Tropical Plando This Heat - Horizontal Hold The - Vicious

When I first heard the song Smiling Dog by Pina Chulada, I immediately wrote Jake from Speaker Snacks who first introduced me to the band with the song, "Apropriate Stranger" there's something so simple and soothing about her voice. I was excited to hear more. He finally revealed a split cassette with King Mob. Smiling Dog has got a slow pulse of synth cradling her soft vocals. It feels like you're suspended in time, simply listening to the pulse and her sweet voice. You can grab the album over at their bandcamp. [...]
