Source: Woodstock Council for World Peace I'm back from my spring holiday and feel quite refreshed and ready to get back to work. We have implemented a new playlist reporting method at KISU, and it's kind of time consuming, so I think I'll just start linking to the playlist entries over there. We'll still post podcasts, mp3s, videos, and the like at this we location. Also, check out the widget on the top right-hand corner of the page. It's an indicator of what's live on KISU at the moment, and if you're [...]

The Needle Drop, public radio's most dangerous show about independent music, has a new station it calls home. It now airs on Fridays @ 10PM on 91.1 FM via KISU in Pocatello, ID. If there are any Idahoians reading this, what do you think of this? Will this hurt or help your state's reputation? Should I come visit? If I visited, what would we do?
First off, mark your calendars for April 17th! We're hosting a show in ISU's Bengal Cafe that will include performances by Drew Danburry , A.W. Feldt , and The Awful Truth . Cost is $5.00 and that includes a li'l something extra special for you (beyond the enjoyment of hearing good music). Come support local artists and local public radio! Secondly, I, along with many cohorts, have been working on this project for several months. We're reviving the KISU Really Big Show, an event that has not occurred for three years [...]
Another busy new release Tuesday is upon us and we sample an array of artists and genres on today's program. As a long time of the Apples in Stereo , I'm very excited that Electronic Projects for Musicians is out today on Yep Roc . It's a b-sides and rarities compilation that spans ten years and several delightful albums. We get to a couple tracks from that, including "Stephen Stephen," a tribute to Stephen Colbert . Also, new music from The Black Keys, Sun Kil Moon, REM, and more. To [...]

It's another new release Tuesday and we see a fair amount of good things out today. We get to a new one from the Athens, Georgia psychedelic pop and folk group Elf Power . Their latest, In a Cave is out today, and it's a bit of a return to form for them. Their last two records had more of a folk leaning, but this record adds some of the fuzz back into the pop. Another thing that I'm extremely excited about is the remastered reissues of five albums from the innovative and formative group, [...]
On today's edition, we continue treading the seas of music coming out of the South by Southwest festival that's happening this week in Austin, Texas. We'll do something a bit different today and sprinkle the playlist with a few downloads for you. Check back on Monday for more musical goodness. Today's episode starts with garage and blues influenced rock and roll, then glides into more indie rock territory, and finishes with some great indie-folk. We also preview a couple of tracks off of The Seldom Seen Kid , the forthcoming album from the Manchester, England band Elbow , as well as hear from The Mother Hips . The Hips are playing dual shows this weekend at The Urban Lounge in Salt Lake City. The Friday performance will include local opener The High Beams and the [...]

DeVotchKa Another new release Tuesday is here, and a good day it is. Many good records are out, including one from the Denver, Colorado-based four-piece musical collective DeVotchKa . The group's name is an allusion to Anthony Burgess and the Russian-based word he coined for "young girl." Musically, it's a beautiful and sweeping combination of American folk and punk, mariachi, and Eastern European and Latin American sounds. Among other things, the group scored the Grammy-nominated soundtrack for the critically acclaimed Little Miss Sunshine and released Curse Your Little Heart , [...]

Descartes a Kant The 2008 South By Southwest music and film conference is well under way this week in Austin, Texas, and there are quite a few exciting artists being showcased this year. In addition to well-known names like Spoon and R.E.M. , as well as bands that are currently receiving a large amount of hype, such as MGMT and Vampire Weekend , there are a slew of relatively unknown (and quite good) bands performing. On today's show we get to [...]
Today's show is a bit of a South by Southwest showcase with a few other bits thrown in. I'm short on time today, but we'll be featuring more artists involved in the festival in the next couple of days - you'll also get a slew of mp3's. Enjoy the show. To stream the show, click on the link, and to download the show, right-click and "Save Target As." Beat City Radio March 12, 2008 PLAYLIST: Vampire Weekend – M79 (Vampire Weekend) XL 2008 [...]
Two apologies are in order today. First off, I'm sorry for not posting anything yesterday, but there wasn't much to miss as we played an archived edition of the show. Secondly, we had an in-studio performance and interview with local singer/songwriter A.W. Feldt on Friday, and somehow, the recording of the show did not save correctly, so it is forever lost. Hopefully we can get him back sometime in the near future. Apologies aside, it's another new release Tuesday and, although, not the busiest for new records, there are still a handul of records worth [...]
I'd like to thank A.W. Feldt (AKA Austin Weaver) for joining us for an in-studio performance today. I must also apologize for being severely underprepared and quite nervous (to my credit, it was only my second in-studio session). The interview wasn't complete shite, but it was far from great. A.W. played well and he even showcased a brand-new track for us. We'll post it in the coming days. We'll also post the playlist. For now, I'm a bit down and I'm also heading to Rexburg for the show at Agenda Clothing. If you need something to do this weekend, check [...]

Band of Annuals Well, I'm extremely relieved and quite happy at the moment. I had my very first in-studio performance and interview today with Salt Lake City's alt-country unit Band of Annuals , and it couldn't have gone any better (for the first time). The bands members include Jay Henderson on acoustic guitar, vocals, and harmonica; Jeremi Hanson on vocals, wurlitzer, and organ; Brent Dreiling on pedal steel; Jamie Timm on electric guitar; and Charlie lewis on percussion. They really are quite fine folks and I'd like to thank them once again for coming [...]
