Since Bradford Cox is occupying a fast-track to insanity, and is channelling his usually prolific creativity into new and unexpected mediums, like hour-long cover versions of 'My Sharona' , it is perhaps fitting, that we turn our attention once again to his deft Deerhunter compadre, Lockett Pundt. Mirrorring is the new dream collaboration between Liz Harris of Grouper + Jesy Fortino of Tiny Vipers , two artists whose respective solo works have been among the most haunting and affecting releases of the last few years. Back in 2009, Lotus Plaza (just one of the many projects of Deerhunter guitarist Lockett Pundt) quietly released The Floodlight Collective , a Kranky records long-player comprised of ten loop-based tracks equal parts bedroom-pop and bliss-out ambient. On February 14 th , in celebration of that project’s forthcoming follow-up, Spooky Action at a Distance, Portland based label Audraglint will release a limited 10” featuring two tracks for two separate projects – both Lotus Plaza and Nice Weekend, a project comprised of Pundt and his fiancé Shayda Yavari, are presented – of the musician’s exo-Deerhunter material. Drummer Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) has now officially joined the line-up following the recent tour for 'Guider'. Not only has the intensity been ramped up but so has the precision. Sounding leaner and clearer than ever before thanks to Sonic Youth's Echo Canyon West Studio. Many puddles of sweat were sacrificed to make this record. 'Replicate' stalks about, ready to pounce before breaking into an almighty swoon of guitars. Not dissimilar to the flange meets wah sound of Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello. [...]
