Hi, everyone. This is an odd edition of Multiple Mondays. I'm going to update a lot of older MM posts with new versions from new artists. First, let's start with the suggestions from Boy Howdy. He runs Cover Lay Down , the cover blog I'd most like to run if I weren't so dang lazy. In the comments section here last year, he recommended Amy Kuney 's ( video ) take on "River" and Rosie Thomas ' cover of "Christmas Don't Be Late (The Chipmunk Song)." They're both wonderful, [...]

The record i would bring to a desert island would have to be Gentlemen, with Afghan Whigs . The album was released in october 93, but i heard the band live the first time 1994. I bought the album at the concert. I have never gotten so floored by any other record. I do not know what it is that makes it so beautiful, it's like it has everything, from the cover to the fantastic songs inside. Awesome vocals and playing, before Dulli got stuck on the myth of himself (i think). [...]

Shannon Taggart - Exorcism 2 After a little break, the current of Great Songs of 2008 continues to flow strong... including a fragile voice from Madrid, the single from Antony's latest masterpiece, the bells and whistles of a remixed Canadian summer anthem, a standout track from a huge Australian new wave trio, the awaited return of a shadowy German indie band, [...]

In Austin this week for SxSW: Sweden's talented song-writer Kristoffer Ragnstam has a new album in time for its songs to rain down upon indie rock audiences at South-by-Southwest this week. "Wrong Side of the Room" (in fine record stores and online through itunes) is certainly one worth owning. If you're in Austin, check him out. If not - and this is your very first exposure, get ready to be impressed! KRISTOFFER RAGNSTAM [...]

It's Saturday morning and what better way to start the day than a full English breakfast (vegetarian of course) of tracks from bands that have contacted the Devil over the week and I haven't quite got around to posting? The Locks Yawned Loose Genre: Americana / Folk Rock / Acoustic [...]

The fourth (count 'em) installment of my SXSW artists feature. If you're new to the game, I list some of the acts I'm excited about, with mp3s and a brief note about each. And on to the action! P-T time. Stay tuned for the grand finale later this week. Mieka Pauley - "9:453 [MP3] This Cambridge, MA artist doesn't need much of an introduction from me. Most of you know her. And if you don't, get to know her. The strength and range of her voice is stunning. [...]
While the pop charts continued to lap up the likes of back-from-the-brink Britney and the usual retreads, a couple of left-of-centre artists have won the hearts of hipsters everywhere. These are new classics, songs that take the elements of great tunes past and reconfigure them into something original and special. I hope you enjoy them. #10 Guillemots – Falling Out Of Reach Guillemots may have pissed off a heap of their fans this year with a glitzy, studio-driven album in place of their previous orchestral [...]

While he's nowhere near as famous as fellow Gothenburg resident Jens Lekman (a Goodnight Believer favourite), Kristoffer Ragnstam is a pop songwriter to watch. He's got a knack for writing songs that bypass melody and obvious hooks - but still manage to worm their way into your ear. Case in point was last year's "Breakfast By The Mattress". It starts off with Ragnstam's curious falsetto and some noodly drum work. Then the pieces start to come together and it somehow becomes a delicious bit of retro-pop confectionary. This year, he's doing it all again, particularly with [...]

File this one under: eclectic. Wrong Side of the Room is the new album from Swedish singer/songwriter/musician Kristoffer Ragnstam. Imagine you took Jens Lekman, Matthew Sweet, and Beck and mixed them all up in a blender. The resulting smoothie would be Ragnstam. The music is a sound collage woven together from elements of pop, rock, folk, and electronic styles. Add to this Ragnstam's quirky sense of humour and you have a very diverse and enjoyable record. [...]

We here around the culture of me were once obsessed with all things relating to Sassy and Dirt magazines. And while those titles are long gone, the sentiment of how they covered the culture industries has indeed left its mark on writers and culture vultures everywhere. It is because of that influence that we are proud to present our features post, "Getting Sassy with...", wherein we bring you that much closer to your favorite bands by way of a simple Q&A session that's both painless and informative. Ha! Beat that, [...]

as swedish musician kristoffer ragnstam shares with our readers, the song he's waking up to now is "acid food", taken off mogwai 's mr beast album. it's funny he's chosen the least noisy song from that album, going for the finely laid out textures on the song over the denser sound we all know mogwai for. in a way, his new album wrong side of the room , just released on bluhammock music , is just as counter-intuitive. while his swedish pop counterparts consistently exude their typical coolness in delivery, ragnstam chooses instead [...]
Swedish singer-songwriter Kristoffer Ragnstam proves to be another worthy addition to his homeland's much-revered musical empire with new release, Wrong Side of The Room, a solid collection of smart songwriting and eccentric, post-modern song-craft that's comforting in that it proves great pop albums can still be made today without solely being of the guilty pleasure variety. Room finds

Kristofer Ragnstam Last night, Swedish indie pop-rocker Kristofer Ragnstam played a charged set to an almost capacity and dare I say, polite, crowd at Piano's. He's over here promoting his new record, Wrong Side of The Room which came out last week on the Bluhammock Label . He'll be in town for a few more NYC dates (though other than the Hamptons on August 29th, I can't tell you where he will be playing) on this tour before he heads off to play [...]
