Photo by the inimitably prolific Hugh Twyman Words by Vicki Annie Clark is a badass. I’d already guessed as much from listening to her music, performed under the name St. Vincent . Her latest album, Strange Mercy , is filled with shredding guitars, brash and loud and confrontational, but contrasted with gorgeous vocals that can be oh so soft but also biting and angry. She commands strange, sometimes spooky sounds from her instruments that result in music that’s not [...]
Kommando Elefant: Wir sprengen Krokodile

The music of St. Vincent always seems to find a way to walk the line between enchanted and menacing. However, on her newest Record Store Day track, "Krokodil" St. Vincent forgoes that whole "enchanted" thing and sets her sites towards straight-up ferocious sludge. And of course, the inundation of grime suits her (hell, what wouldn't suit her!?). From the get go, "Krokodil" is drums full steam ahead with twisted guitar lines that warp right around Clark's stretched out, whiplash vocals. The track is unforgiving, leaving you with no time to catch your breath. However, amidst the [...]

St Vincent live at the Met, Geoff Leung 2011 There's certainly nothing wrong with the pretty floral arrangements of Strange Mercy , but really this is what we've been hoping to hear from Annie Clark. Strange because, if we were looking for metal or ugly teeth-baring screams why would one ever expect it to come from Ms Clark? Or better, why would we want it to? But we want to see St. Vincent violently shake her guitar to squeeze out every last bit of feedback. [...]

St. Vincent crowd surfed and played her little heart out last week while we attended Coachella, she premiered this post punk guitar swirling track 'Krokodil' also and a studio version arrived later (which you can hear in full above) as part of her record store day contribution. If this is a new direction she's heading into we're certainly not complaining.
The a-side to St. Vincent's new, non-album Record Store day 73, and it's a blood pumper. Between Annie Clark's ferocious screams and the heavily distorted guitars, St. Vincent takes no prisoners on this one; reminding me of some of Kim Gordon's more aggressive moments in the Sonic Youth discography. There's a really twisted chorus effect on Clark's voice that makes her vocal delivery breach the threshold of insanity. Really short, solid, and punked out track. Considering the nature of the song, I'm not surprised the song didn't make it onto Strange Mercy -assuming the [...]

Fresh from the wonderful Strange Mercy , Ms. Clark and Co. have decided to offer up a slice of raged fun for Record Store Day. Music Player: 01 Krokodil.mp3 [...]
Listen to St. Vincent two new songs "Krokodil" and "Grot" below, taken from her Record Store Day 73 single. At the first weekend of Coachella this year, just over a week ago now, Annie Clark ( St. Vincent ) debuted her brand new track "Krokodil" to a frantic crowd as she crowd-surfed and screamed her way through the song. Naturally, this being the digital age, when the song got its official release over the weekend on Record Store Day, someone took it upon [...]
Nothing is better than when St. Vincent gets really fucking heavy , right? Nothing is better than when Annie Clark , she of the birdlike bone structure and mad guitar skills, gets totally, brutally punk on you, right? Right? If you’re with us on this, check out both sides of her totally unreal Record Store Day 7” release, Krokodil . More Record Store Day goodness for you. St. Vincent effort for the day includes 2 brand new jams that are both so good. “Krokodil” show Annie get her garage rock cap on, and go balls to the wall apeshit. “Grot” is a 5 minute glitchy heavy rock induced coma of a song. So awesome to hear her on way heavier tracks than usual.

(4AD, 2012) First -- stop reading and go to your record store and buy this 7", right now. It's a Record Store Day special release and there might still be one on the shelf for you. ( At the time of writing, Rhino Records in Claremont has approximately three copies left. ) You won't regret it. Now -- okay. It's time to talk about St. Vincent. Krokodil kicks ass. It's the first official signal of a direction she's been hinting at over the last few years: loud, [...]

It's Monday morning. My likely last Coachella has come to a close. And now we continue to lay by the pool for 2 more days before returning home to reality. So now is the time where we talk about highlights. For me, highlights were probably M83 and St. Vincent. I'd only seen M83 once before at Pitchfork Fest a few years back and it was the highlight of THAT weekend. And it's awesome to see what they've become now. Beyond excited that I get to see them at a proper show for the first time in under 2 weeks in [...]

Photo by Philip Cosores Last night St. Vincent played Coachella Weekend 1 and got a fantastic turn out in the Gobi Tent despite clashing with Jeff Mangum and The Shins. She rewarded the audience by playing a new song called "Krokodil" which will be released for Record Store Day next week. It's a punk rock song that saw Annie Clark crowd surfing and generally rocking out. You can watch St. Vincent's whole performance below, and skip to 37.40 to see "Krokodil."

As we posted over the weekend, St Vincent, has shared with the world, down under first , and now at Coachella, one of her new songs which she is going to release next week for Record Store Day, watch "Krokodil" pronounced "Crocodile" which will accompany "Grot" on her 72 vinyl release this coming week. In both instances, she throws herself into the crowd and performs the song, which as most of you know is very un Annie like and thrills the crowd, a definite crowd pleaser, we guys and err um gals would agree hey? [...]

It features the audio of five live performances from St. Vincent's, including 'Chloe In The Afternoon', 'Surgeon', 'Strange Mercy', 'Cheerleader', and 'Year Of The Tiger Watch Annie below get into it, and do a little crowd surfing in the end!!!!
During the mid 1950’s William Burroughs wrote to Allen Ginsberg from Tangier, Morrocco regarding his experiences with liquid oxycodone. Sold over the counter in the International Zone under the German brand name Eukodol, he described at length spending extended periods of time locked away in his room, only moving to inject himself every two hours.
