Plagued by a power outage as the result of a random and crazy Los Angeles windstorm, (Palm Tree branches falling to their death at an incredible rate are no joke) the Indie Dojo is brought to you from a local coffee shop who is kind enough to lend a free WiFi connection with purchase. Point being, wind, sleet, hail, snow, tornadoes, earthquakes and/or more, the Indie Dojos got you. Resilient MFer's we are.

Boston based group Larcenist released their latest album Eager City, Patient Country in January. They have that folkie, alt-country sound laced with harmonies. I'm partial to "Dig Me Up" and "Old Iron Mill" personally. Check out the track "Faithful" from the album below.

Larcenist, I won't cheat on you. I just won't. Self-describing their sound as “Doom Folk”, I don’t know that I’d immediately lump Larcenist in with O’Death just yet; however, they do make a...
T he good fellas of Goodnight Texas are coming to town next week and have given me the ok to award a few tickets to a lucky fan, as well as a vinyl copy of their record, A Long Life of Living, one of my favorite records from last year and one I think definitely belongs in your possession. If you don't know Goodnight Texas, let me give you the primer. Goodnight, Texas is a cross continental collaboration of Avi Vinocur and Patrick Wolf whose unlikely collaboration crosses a midpoint in the country, a town called Goodnight, Texas. [...]

photo credit to David Wright Photography http://www.davidwrightphoto.co m/ T he moment you press play on the new full-length Larcenist album Eager City, Patient Country a welcoming feeling sets in and takes hold. It's the familiar sound of everyday life, and the stories of regular folks like you and I making our way in the world, set to beautifully arranged instruments and reassuring voices. All twelve songs evoke a time gone by but in way that feels contemporary, after all the search for salvation is a [...]

Photos by Boston Concert Photography S aturday night brought our friends Larcenist back into the city for the official release of their new album Eager City, Patient Country. In an incredibly packed, sweaty night at Great Scott, hordes of fans, friends and music lovers came in droves for the likes of Cask Mouse, Aunt Martha and the return of Larcenist from their south to north tour. Cask Mouse & Aunt Martha warmed up the night, and then Larcenist came out to much fanfare, playing a good part of their new material, [...]

I 'm so absolutely pleased to have the honor to put this up finally, I know how much effort and hard work the boys of Larcenist have gone through to finally get this record right where they wanted to. I'd say their patience has paid off, Eager City, Patient City is a wonderful wonderful record. It laces beautiful sounding folk music full of gang harmonies, sweeping stringed instruments, and an a lyrical earnestness that bears the aura of passing times of downtrodden rurality. It feels classically vintage and tastefully modern, as they blend together the elements of folk, country, soul [...]

Going by the genre of "doom folk" the Bostonians of Larcenist write songs haggard anthems of the times. Their new album, Eager City Patient County , will be out on the 22nd of January but the first single off the album is available now, give it a listen. For 5 dudes that look super hard, oddly enough their excellent motto is "beard, hugs, and rocking." I'd like to think we'd get along.

B oston's bearded boys beautiful new album, Eager City, Patient Country , will be released January 22, 2013 and the gents have just offered up the first video for the track "Faithful" to bring 2012 to close and put their stamp on the new year. Larcenist's lyrics weave together stories of small towns and changing times with expert harmonies and foot-stomping fiddle playing. The new video was filmed by Larcenist drummer Jonathan Tompkins and highlights the imagery in vocalist Brandon Mastrangelo's tale [...]

Music Video Premiere Bands You Need to Know Larcenist by David Wright I've been very fortunate to have worked with the lads from LARCENIST on some great live showcases over the last few years. Lovingly defined as “doom folk,” Larcenist tunes are downtrodden anthems that combine elements of folk, country, soul, and rock. The bearded [...]
Strength in numbers subsided to fervent energy at TT The Bear's Place in Boston last night as Rocky Votolato serenaded his doting crowd of about 150 fans. Votolato started his set at 11:15 p.m., nearly a half hour past the slated time because of what was described as a dubstep show taking place next door at the Middle East night club. Even with the delay the concurrent show continued, and Votolato's acoustic guitar and harmonica had trouble competing with the thumping bass pounding through the thin walls of the Middle East. Consequently, Votolato called an audible, grabbing an [...]
Larcenist - Starless I'm really excited about Boston's Larcenist getting back into the studio. They've been playing all over the Northeast area for the last year, and now they are bringing "doomfolk" into Q Division studios for a second full length. Check out a recording of their song "Starless," which likely will be on the record in question. The song was recorded live in Bryan Minto's home in Providence, RI. "Starless" features a reverby almost spacey vocal style which gives an instant feeling distance and volume. Its quickly becoming a favorite of [...]

Have Gun Will Travel - Thirteen Miles To Empty Larcenist - Leon Tonight Bradenton Florida's Have Gun Will Travel come to Somerville's PA's Lounge. The show will be rounded out by Music Savage favorites Larcenist, M.Holland and Mount Peru. I've spent a lot of time listening to Have Gun Will Travel's '08 Casting Shadows Tall As Giants and I'm quickly gulping the kool-aid down. These guys write gorgeous melodic alt country tunes with a wide variety of string assortments they find a way to keep the music extremely beautiful and [...]

I have your Friday night (9/23) all planned for you if you're in the greater Boston area. There is a concert that is not to be missed at P.A.'s lounge in Union Square. Have Gun, Will Travel is a Floridian band with a hard edge and alt-country sound that makes you want to stomp your feet. They will be releasing a new album, Mergers & Acquisitions , on November 1st. Nine Bullets debuted a track and it's a fun one. Have Gun Will Travel [...]

I've been waiting for this week since the middle of August when I updated my calender and watched concerts with perfect line ups stack up. This week is tremendous, not to mention filled with some of the best local talent this city has to offer. I'm choosing the local shows over the slightly bigger names all week. I'm most excited for Friday-Sunday. Go see a show! Monday 9/19 Frazey Ford with Whitehorse at Club Passim [...]

Tuesday, May 10th has been an ominous day looming on my calendar, full of difficult decisions. At this moment, I still don't know for certain which shows I'll pick, it's that arduous of a task. I've known for a few months about some big and exciting concerts that will be in town tomorrow and of course in the last few weeks some smaller and equally as exciting concerts have been added as well. The grand total of places I'd like to be all at once comes to six different concert venues. And just wait until you hear who all is [...]

The more local bands I listen to, the more I realize that Boston tends to cultivate a distinct style. I've heard this from many people over the past year, but I liked to believe that Boston had a little bit of everything. I've quickly learned that there is indeed one dominating sound that suits Boston quite well. Of course there are the punk, goth, electronic, and outrageous rock bands to be found in the city, but the core sound that Boston is known for is an amalgamation of folk/rock with a heavy dose of americana. I once heard someone explain [...]

Leon Boston based band, Larcenist contacted me recently with a new EP titled, We Become the Hunted , a 5 song delight of the folk/americana influence with the caveat of "if you play it twice it'll be a LP." Well, I played it a few more times than that (a dozen or so) and I can say that this is some really gorgeous music being played here. Downtrodden songs about rustic surroundings and small town influences and blue collar people, with sweeping violin string accompaniments make these songs instantly likable and the [...]
