Leeds based Swimming Lessons has crafted a beautiful underwater adventure on new single “Double”. Drowning yet evocative vocals from Ben Lewis light the way over a playful and expansive electronic landscape that feels as hopeful as it is adventurous. A hugely inspirational offering that can offer our dreams a chance at reality. Close your eyes and be ready to ingest all of this sparking magic.
It would be silly to judge a new artist specifically on the bands they've supported; but you can usually get some kind of idea of which branch their clambering along. Swimming Lessons is the solo project of Ben Lewis, and since setting out on this crazy old journey has played with the likes of Grimes, Tune-Yards and Of Montreal . Not too shabby at all, eh? Double is his latest track, and it's not hard to see why he's been invited in to the aforementioned circle. Dream-like in its outlook [...]

There is a reason for the title of this post. Everything unexpected DID happen at Live At Leeds 2013. Let me break it down for you: I couldn't go to work on Friday. Someone in the office gave me a nasty bastard chest and sinus infection. By the time Saturday rolled in, I was still so ropey I nearly cancelled my attendance for the festival. Regardless, turn up I did, and with my sidekick Sophie and her friend Simon, we negotiated the thick crowd queuing outside Leeds City Museum, got our wristbands and proceeded to plan who to see. I have [...]
Tonight of all nights feels precisely the right time to go see Yorkshire's returning alt. rock stalwarts Sky Larkin , not least as they just so happened to unveil a preliminary glimpse into their third, and as yet untitled full-length – Motto – more recently than it would've taken to travel down to the neighbouring Kings Cross from their native Leeds, and those East Coast trains really don't hang about. And neither do Katie Harkin & co. Well, almost... Since last heard from, a trio became a duo became a quartet although tonight they're back down to three, [...]
I can't even begin to articulate how long I've been waiting for this to happen – for visceral, yet deftly vulnerable Leodensian trio Sky Larkin to return. And as such to a degree, there's no statement they could've by this point released that would've feasibly lived up to the highly animated anticipation fizzling from my every pore and tszujing up my every particle, unless it were to brim with the animalistic intent so many of their songs have previously. And Motto, I'm absolutely thrilled and commensurately relieved to reveal, is no exception: "If I had a motto I would [...]

Heart-Ships are the kind of band that inspire, nae demand, passionate rapture. The first time I heard them I wanted to run out in the street, grab strangers by the scruff of the neck and hiss the lyrics in to their ears. They're a band that don't really belong here, wherever here may be. They sound like a weird and wonderful band that exist only in the garden of Spencer Krug's secretive retreat, bashing on guitars, strolling around waist-high grass in the sunshine, spinning yarns of mythical creatures and broken hearts. In unfortunate reality, [...]
Just a bunch of Northern riff-centric dudes... - by Benjamin Bland
A super little EP. A little different, a little rough round the edges but well worthy of your time. By John Deasey

Festival season is fast approaching and the picturesque images of rolling hills, covered in revellers swigging lukewarm cider move ever-closer. Rain or shine, a festival is an atmosphere unbeknownst, to anyone who hasn’t been a merrymaker at these events. People band together, the person in the tent next to you becomes your best mate and personal hygiene goes well and truly out of the window, to be forgotten until the pleasure of a shower on the Monday morning. No festival epitomises the festival spirit more than Reading and Leeds. [...]

This Armeria track has been around for a month or so already, but I felt it was far too good to pass up sharing on this beautiful Saturday evening. Go enjoy the weekend everybody:

It is not every day that I discover an artist named after myself. But it is nice that when it happens they craft such firm groove lashings such as "Everyday." This is the kind of gentle jam for easing the brain into another weekend without causing the kind of permanent damage that may have resulted from last weekend...
So we're pretty excited about Live At Leeds hitting the city come May 3rd-6th this year. And I'll tell you why. 1) Savages. are. playing. Enough said. 2) Awesome venues across Leeds, favorites are the now newly refurbished Nation of Shopkeepers. Brudenell is always alot of fun and then there's Trinity Church, next to the newly opened shopping area Trinity Leeds. 3) Over a 100 bands including Savages (to re-iterate point no. 1) also Menace Beach whom I've always been meaning to catch: [Menace Beach - Drop Outs] 4) MUST, the band with probably the most unsearchable band name on Google [...]

This voice . People are gonna say Tom Waits, because he's the first person they always say when it's a voice like this. People are gonna say Isaac Brock, especially when they get their ears round the seasick chop-chop of the guitars on Jazz Funerals . People might say something like Matt Berninger, but I prefer Adam Turla. There's something about this voice, man. It's rich and throaty, like coffee grounds down a garbage disposal , it's masculine. But it's singing about defeat. "Scatter my ashes by the coffee machine" [...]

Atlas is a Leeds duo consisting of Rem Sutton and Luke Fantom and are responsible for what is dubbed as " haunted slow jams" - it's a very soul-touching sound to say the least. After listening to their Feel Me EP I was instantly hooked and hunted down a number of intimate tunes the duo produced. Furthermore, their visuals for their album art and music videos are brilliant. [...]
